2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate

new-2014-mercedes~benz-e~class-amgwagon4matic-5520-12567782-1-640

I’ve been seeing some insane E63 Wagons around town, and every time it blows my mind that that’s the way that some young families get to soccer practice in the Bay Area. I even saw a matte titanium gray S-edition street-parked in Palo Alto. They’ve been called “überexclusive,” but that doesn’t seem to apply in the land of tech. Over 500 twin-turbocharged horses in a station wagon sounds like a tuner magazine article, but it’s real, warrantied, production car life these days. While the transition to all-wheel drive may have snuffed the burnouts, I’d be dishonoring my nature to think that 0-60 in under 4 seconds in a wagon is anything less than true badassery.

Just your standard options list… Thanks goodness for the Eco Stop/Start! As usual, I think Mercedes’ big-mouth intakes fit better when the lines streak longer in the form of a wagon, slightly cleaning up an aesthetic that looks confused on sedans and coupes. $110k is about MSRP, and it’d probably be wiser to wait a year or two for the depreciation monster to hit and save yourself a few tens of thousands of dollars. That’s a bit pragmatic for these types of cars though, as people around here want the biggest price tag and the baddest badge. As the RS6 isn’t available on this side of the pond, with the family and the means, this is the most kick-ass wagon you can buy.

I share your affinity for gonzo wagons as well as your disappointment that we’ll likely never see the RS6 in American showrooms. The E63 is a worthy alternative, perhaps the less refined CTS-V Sport Wagon, as well.

I’m waiting for the RS2 to be 25 years old 🙂

I second your sentiment on the RS2 Adam.

had the pleasure of being in the “less refined” CTS-V wagon…and in a 6 speed no less…
never in an Estate…..but the CTS-V wagon was an absolute BLAST rated at 556hp my butt-dyno told me it had much more….and the fact that I could row it was a big plus for me…
too bad that “Tourings” are not as popular here….

I feel like a brat calling the Caddy names because I greatly appreciate GM producing the Sport Wagon at all. I think they sell about 4/year.

But I did test drive a CTS-V Sedan and the body creaked like an 80-year-old man getting out of bed in the morning and the supercharger whined louder than a toddler on a sugar crash. It was a fun ride, though.
