The 2001.5 Audi S4 Avant I wrote up a few weeks back as part of Tuner Tuesday has now popped up on Ebay. The reserve is on, but we’ve heard from people who have seen this car in person saying this car will not disappoint. This is a fairly rare to see color combination on these S4 Avants and the condition and modifications seem to justify the pricing before; I expect the reserve is set close to the original ask of $17,500.
Back in April, Nate wrote up an attractive E30 M3 S38 swap that was asking all the money for what was a non-original car. But we liked it, mostly because it was a well executed build and it took what would have been a tired S14 E30 and breathed new life into it. So what else does that great S38B36 look at home in? One of the complaints about the E36 in North America was that the M3 didn’t get a full-blown M motor as its predecessors and stablemates, but the builder of today’s track attack 1998 M3 has resolved that. Backdating the motor, this E36 is a rolling M appreciation billboard that will remind you what an incredible track car the E36 makes:
It has been almost 20 years since Porsche introduced the 993 and what would become the last of the air-cooled 911s. Porsche felt 272 hp was pushing the limits of what they could reliably produce from the naturally aspirated 3.6 liter flat-six engine while maintaining stable operating temperatures through air cooling. Combine those concerns with increasingly more stringent emissions and fuel economy needs and the writing was on the wall for the air-cooled engine. But Porsche certainly sent the model off with a bang as many still consider the 993 the best representation of a naturally-aspirated 911 produced to date. With the air-cooled market as strong as ever low-mileage examples are in increasingly high demand. The car we see featured here is a Red over Black 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe with 21,270 miles brought to us from our friends at Sun Valley Auto club in Hailey, Idaho.
About two weeks ago, I wrote up two ex-Turbo 911 racers that took the builds in different directions; one, an ultimate street car with track potential and a crazy V8 LS7 swap, and the other a more traditional RSR-inspired PCA club racer. Well, today we’re back at it with another ex-930 that has been converted to more traditional RSR style, with a big IROC whale tail and some pretty trick Jongbloed wheels, along with some Skoal Bandit/Group 44 inspired decals. What do you think?
The year was 1976. Cadillac proclaimed it’s Eldorado Convertible would be the “last American convertible.” Safety concerns had put the idea of open roofed vehicles on the ropes. This concern would be short lived, as a few drop tops began appearing in the 1980s, including an Eldorado Convertible for 1983. This prompted some 1976 Eldorado owners to take legal action against Cadillac, to no avail.
Mercedes stayed the course with their 450SL roadster, however, a four-seat convertible would not reappear until the 1990s with the W124 E-class. This left the gates wide open for coach builders to chop the roofs off a number of SEC Coupes. An even more rare conversion is this car we see here, a W123 Convertible for sale in Georgia. Converted by a firm in New York, this 280CE Convertible makes one wonder why Mercedes didn’t try their hand at al fresco motoring via the W123 chassis.
