1994 Porsche 968

For a long time now, we’ve been banging on about how the 924/944/968 were the best deal in classic German motoring. For sure, these models offer solid build quality, great looks, reasonable practicality and more affordable repairs. Couple these traits with one of the best-handling chassis Porsche has made and you’ve got instant success, right? Well, not so fast. In thinking about writing up this car, I remember back to the early 1990s when the Japanese upped their game and suddenly the 944/968 wasn’t the natural choice. They were, in fact, quite expensive and relatively underpowered compared to their cutting-edge rivals. How does the 968 stack up against the FD RX-7 Twin Turbo, the Z32 300ZX Twin-Turbo, the Mk. IV Supra Turbo and the C4 Chevrolet Corvette LT-1 today?

1975 Porsche 914 1.8

Rob is on holiday this week, so I’m going to take it upon me to throw a few Porsches out there in his absence. The 914 was the predecessor to the 924, itself another close collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche. Offered in both four and six cylinder trim, this 1975 1.8 liter for sale in Florida represents the second to last year for this model, one which is often forgotten in the annals of Porsche history. Kermit the Frog said once “it ain’t easy bein’ green.” Perhaps the same is true on being a 914.

Citron Coupes: 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera & 1996 Porsche Carrera 4S

Yellow is a color more akin to some Italian exotics, but occasionally you’ll come across some of Stuttgart’s finest in this eye-popping hue. Porsche produced a number of different yellows over the years, and here are two air-cooled examples slathed in this bright shade. First up is a 1987 911 Coupe in Summer Yellow for sale in Florida.

Tuner Tuesday: 1987 BMW 325i Euro-Spec Hartge/Weismann

I was joking around with our editor, Paul, saying that I was pretty sure we could just feature E30s all day long and everyone would be happy. There’s a seemingly endless supply of examples that come to the market every week. There are the normal S50/S52 swaps, some crazy turbo editions, mint condition original examples, tired daily drivers and everything in between. But occasionally something special pops up that really makes you take notice. Much like earlier’s H26 modified 325i, here is a 325i that was apparently originally modified by Hartge in Germany. Sporting some of the really tasty Hartge bits but not a full H26 conversion, the Coup de gras has to be the Weismann hardtop:
