1995 Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe

I often wonder what comes of the W140 Mercedes-Benz coupe. They certainly aren’t as striking or stately as the previous generations, but they are extremely high quality and can still be used as a daily driver without issue. Production numbers went down as the generation aged, and trying to find a V12 example in the later years is extremely tough. Still, you can find a V8-powered car without too much work and judging by recent results, not too much money. Today’s example, a 1995 S500 coupe in Virginia is finished in the wonderful shade of Emerald Pearl, gets you into what seems to be a clean car without too many miles.

2004 Mercedes-Benz C240 4MATIC Wagon

Nobody circles the wagons like the … Mercedes-Benz wagons. I’m sure you know what I’m trying to get at here. In all seriousness, if you want resale value, go ahead and grab yourself a wagon from basically any generation. It’s even true of today’s bottom-of-the-barrel offering, the W203 C240 4MATIC wagon. I’ve ranted for years about how the W203 was a real low point for Mercedes-Benz in the modern era with its utterly bland styling, horrifically cheap interior, and lackluster powertrains. The wagon doesn’t alter that formula, but at least you have the utility of all that extra space. As you can probably tell, this is not an attractive color combination. Travertine beige over Java vinyl. Don’t let the fancy name of “Java” fool you either, it’s just beige.

2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS

Judging by everything we know and learned over the past 60 or so years, the first-generation Porsche Cayenne should not be a vehicle that is aging well. It is built on the Volkswagen Group E platform shared with the Touareg and Audi Q7, which are vehicles you recommend to your worst enemy because you know they are disasters when used. The Cayenne wasn’t immune either with faults like cracked plastic coolant pipes, driveshaft carrier bearings that like to turn into dust, and if you are really unlucky, cylinder bore scoring. Still, enthusiasts are paying very good money for the Turbo examples along with today’s trim, the Cayenne GTS.

This 2009 Cayenne GTS up for sale in Georgia looks incredible from the photos and you’d think it was a low mileage example that was rarely driven. Nope. 204,000 miles. Wait until you see the amount of work that was needed to keep this one perfect.

2023 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Well, they are here. One of the hottest and most anticipated Porsche models in a while. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS. For everything the GT4 is, the GT4 RS is at another level. You know the drill. The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six makes a peak 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, good enough to pull down 0-60 runs in 2.8 seconds. Those are hypercar numbers in a Cayman. All at a starting price of $150,000. Of course, that is if you can get one, which of course you can’t unless you’ve been leasing loaded-up Cayennes every 3 years from your local dealer since they came out back in 2004 as well as buying everything else that has been offered to you without fuss. Then maybe you can get on the list. If that isn’t you, then here you go. All you need to do is send the money…a lot of money.

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe

Crazy to think that the older 991-generation of Porsche 911 is now 10 years old. Time stops for no one and here we are. For myself, I loved and still do admire the 991. There is nothing conversational or risky about it, other than maybe it is a little large. However, cars growing in size aren’t exactly unique to Porsche, as every car has grown outside of the really niche models. If I had my choice, I’d have a 991 GT3 and call it a day, but for around $60,000 less, I’ll take today’s car: a 2012 911 Carrera S coupe.
