Almost 14 years after the re-introduction of the MINI brand in the US, BMW seems to have made a rather shrewd move in keeping this marque in their fold. It seems a distant memory, then, when BMW tried its hand at a small hatchback in the form of a shortened E36 3 series. The Compact, as it became known, would be the entry point for those seeking that BMW badge in the 1990s. The US market would only receive the 318ti, powered by the 1.9 liter inline-4 that also found a home in such cars as the 318i sedan and Z3 roadster. This 318ti for sale in Missouri is in fantastic shape, equipped with a 5-speed manual and the M Sport package and looks rather sharp in Alpine White.

The W140 S-class was a huge step forward, even for a company known for innovation like Mercedes-Benz. Here was a luxury sedan like none other, chock full with all the latest technology at the outset of the 1990s, even offering a brand new V12 engine for those seriously power hungry customers. Its large size drew the ire of some, especially as it debuted in the midst of a global recession. Nevertheless, this car would soldier on throughout the 1990s, being the face of executive transport and embassies everywhere. This 1993 500SEL for sale in Florida is in amazing condition, with just over 78,000 miles on the clock. Even budgeting in money for the inevitable maintenance, this is a lot of car for the money.

Every now and then, I’ll see a Saab pass me by in my daily travels and it brings a smile to my face. Sure, towards the end of their run here in the US, it was a sad story, but we may never see such a unique car manufacturer ever again. Saab reached its zenith back in the 1980s, continuing on with a tradition of turbocharging they began a decade earlier well before other car manufacturers caught on to this technology. Perhaps one of the most beloved turbocharged Saabs was the 900 SPG. This model included a stiffer suspension and three spoke alloy wheels, as well as leather interior, air condition and premium sound system as standard. The SPG was further differentiated from lesser 900s with its unique lower body kit. There is a rabid group of followers for this car, so finding a good one for sale can be a challenge. This example for sale in Washington state is a one-owner example, which is sure to set off a firestorm of interest.

Right before the turn of the century, the sun would set on the E36 BMW M3. This was the M3 that would make the fast 3 series formula a bit more accessible to the armchair enthusiast than its predecessor. For the first time, a four-door variant was offered and, gasp, an automatic gearbox. In addition, a 3.2 liter, six-cylinder engine would supplant the 2.3 liter inline-4 with Formula 1 DNA that was offered in the iconic M3. This final year M3 for sale from our friends at Automobili Limited. It’s a low-mileage example equipped with the 5-speed manual gearbox and Style 23 M Contour wheels finished in the desirable and rare Dakar Yellow.

The W110 is where the Mercedes-Benz fascination started in my family, with my father having owned a 1962 190C during his years of bachelorhood. There are times I miss owning a Mercedes, even though I’d never give up the MINI Cooper S I currently own. I have no doubt that someday I’ll return back to a Mercedes-Benz, but it would have to be a vintage one. This 1966 200 for sale in Illinois is one of the nicest W110s I’ve seen in recent years. The green over tan livery is smart looking and the four-speed manual shift on the floor is a rather rare option, as you generally see a lot of column shifters on these mid-sixties Mercs.
