1992 BMW 318i Individual Convertible

I’ll be honest, I don’t particularly enjoy summer. I was happy that I was sent to South Africa for half of the month of August for work, as their winter season is much more agreeable with me than the hot and humid east coast summers here in the US. Now that fall is right around the corner, its the one time of year I would thoroughly enjoy a convertible. This 1992 BMW 318i Convertible is one of a few treated to the Individual program, with Neon Green paintwork, color matched basketweave alloys and M-Tech interior.

1963 Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback

While early Volkswagens were certainly interesting from an engineering standpoint, you wouldn’t quite call the Beetle and Type 1 styling powerhouses. When Volkswagen decided to expand the lineup to include the Type 3, things got a bit more interesting. Along with its contemporary, the Karmann Ghia, these cars injected a bit of life and diversity into the VW range. My favorite of the lot was one we never received in the US, the Type 3 Notchback. This was a handsome two-door sedan with humble Beetle underpinnings, but it showed the world that VW was eager to appeal to a wider audience. Many Notchbacks have made their way stateside via enthusiast channels and this example for sale in California, while not stock, is a real minter with modifications sympathetic to the original design.

1975 Mercedes-Benz 280SLC

For as long lived as the R107 SL and C107 SLC were, Mercedes-Benz never offered these roadsters and coupes in six-cylinder form in the US market. That’s rather curious, given the fuel crunch that was in full swing during this cars production run. Plenty of private importers went and had a go, bringing the 280SL and SLC into the before legislators stepped in and curbed gray market imports. Now that all R107 and C107 models are eligible for import as they are more than 25 years old, one can take their pick from any number of six-cylinder SLs and SLCs out there for sale abroad. Luckily, this 280SLC for sale in New Jersey is already here, offering the classic Mercedes buyer something a bit different than your usual large-bumpered, sealed beam headlamp adorned SLC.

1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S

The Mercedes-Benz Fintails of the 1950s and 1960s was a rather daring design for a company noted for its adherence to traditional design. This styling hallmark would live on through the late 1960s and could be considered the grandfather to the modern day E-class sedan. The 230S we see here was one of the later expressions of the W111 design and one that found its way into my father’s garage in the 1970s. This black example for sale in New York is almost identical to my father’s car, save for the fact that his was a ’67 with a 4-speed manual on the floor and was equipped with a saddle tan MB-Tex interior.

2003 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro

In the late 1990, Volkswagen began the long push to become the segment leader for mid-sized sedans. The B5 Passat was a leap forward over the slow selling and somewhat cantankerous B4 Passat, catching their Japanese competition off-guard. The styling was smooth and almost Bauhaus-like. The Audi A6 that would arrive on the scene in 1997 echoed a lot of the new Passat’s attractive lines wrapped into a more luxurious package. A number of C5 A6s were available, from the garden variety 2.8 to a fire-breathing RS6 with it’s biturbo V8. This 2.7T Quattro splits the middle in terms of performance, with the 2.7 liter biturbo V6 mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This one has had a host of maintenance and comes with an upgraded RS4 clutch.
