1992 Mercedes-Benz 300CE

$_4 (1)

We paid tribute to the W124 Mercees-Benz E-class on Monday. It’s hard to believe it has been three decades since this car was unveiled, as you still see plenty of these cars roaming the roads. A lot of the W124s I run across are run down and seem to be on their last legs, but like the W123 that preceded it, they go from strength to strength. This 300CE coupe for sale in Louisiana is a well preserved example with under 50,000 miles on the clock, making this quite an appealing modern classic.

1968 Volkswagen Beetle

$_4 (1)

At the beginning of the month, we took a look at a restored 1969 Volkswagen Beetle that almost seemed a bit over restored, given this car’s original intention as basic transportation for the people. Now comes along another restored Beetle of similar vintage, this time a 1968 example in Sahara Beige. If the aforementioned Diamond Blue Beetle was a bit over the top for your tastes and OEM is your thing, you’ll want to scope out this Bug.

$_4 (1)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate was a very short lived offering here in the US market, lasting only four years, with supply cut off two years before the next generation C-class would arrive. In the beginning, two engine choices were offered, a 2.6 liter V6 or 3.2 liter V6, with or without 4Matic all-wheel drive. Later on, the C240 would soldier on as the sole C-class estate, available with or without 4Matic. This 2002 C320 Estate for sale in New Jersey has well under 50,000 miles and wears the five-spoke alloys from the Sport package of the period.

1967 Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB

$_4 (1)

For a car manufacturer with a history spanning over 100 years, it’s fairly impressive that historians and enthusiasts still regard the 600 as one of the most notable models from Mercedes-Benz. This was a landmark vehicle not just for the company but the whole automotive scene. It was one of the most expensive and complex vehicles of its day and as such, anyone who was anyone seemed to own one, from movie stars to dictators. These cars are highly valued today and many that come up for sale have been treated to lavish restorations costing thousands of dollars. This 600 SWB for sale in Illinois, however, is a driver quality car, showing the wrinkles of age as it closes in on 200,000 miles. But it wears its patina in a dignified manner in which only a Grosser Mercedes can.

30 Years of the W124 – A Tribute

Thirty years have passed since the introduction of the W124 Mercedes-Benz E-class range. This is a car that had big shoes to fill, as the W123 range was beloved the world over for its quality, durability and rock solid diesel engines. Arriving in the middle of the 1980s, this new mid-sized Mercedes designed by Bruno Sacco brought the company’s traditional styling hallmarks into a new era. This car would spawn coupe, cabriolet and estate variants as well as introduce four-wheel drive as an option and a few high performance V8 variants. The W124 would carry on into the mid-1990s, succeeded by the W210 E-class with its radical four-headlamp front profile.

Since we’re in the middle of winter in many parts of the US, we’ll start off by looking at this 1991 300E 4Matic for sale in California offered at no reserve.
