It is hard to believe that some cars that were already six figures have doubled in value over the past five years. Especially considering the hype around them isn’t all that much and the values of risen without much notice. Of course, I am talking about the 996 generation of the Porsche 911 GT2. Just five years ago we looked at a 2002 for 3,200 miles on the odometer for an asking price of $169,000. That car finally ended up selling for $154,000 and at the time, seemed like a big price for a 996 GT2. Oh, how naïve we were. Today, we have another 996 GT2 up for sale in Pennsylvania with just 3,900 miles. The price? I told you to double it.

I’m a sucker for special editions and crazy packages, and today’s car is something I didn’t expect to see come from Porsche. What we have today is a 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder with the 000 Package. What exactly is that? 000 Magazine, which is a really great quarterly if you can swing the price, partnered up with the Porsche Exclusive department to offer a package that bundled a bunch of different options today. It was offered in four colors: GT Silver Metallic, along with paint-to-sample shades of Brewster Green, Albert Blue, and today’s color, Slate Grey. You also got the interior trimmed in Ascot Brown leather, LED Headlights with PDLS+, brake calipers in high-gloss black, black brushed aluminum trim, and illuminated doorsills in stainless steel with the 000 logo. If you opted for GT Silver Metallic, the pricing came in at $143,380. However, add another $13,000 for those other paint-to-sample colors. All in, you are probably around $160,000. Do you want exclusive? You’ll pay.

3 CommentsSometimes the small details make all the difference. Thanks to Porsche, you can do that as long as you pay them lots of money. Today’s car, a 2021 718 Spyder, pays tribute to the previous Boxster Spyder that flew under the radar to most but that doesn’t mean they aren’t appreciated. Once we open the doors you’ll know what I mean.

Comments closedOne of the stranger special editions to come out of Porsche in the past few years was the 2017 911 Carrera S Endurance Racing Edition. It was produced to commemorate the marque’s 17 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was fine, but the color scheme based on Porsche’s LMP1 racer is really bizarre. That is because you can’t actually read what it says. It is supposed to read “Porsche Intelligent Performance” on the hood and roof, but the font is so large that you have no idea what it even reads unless you are a mega nerd for everything Porsche. Needless to say, this doesn’t appeal to the casual 911 buyer that turns in their lease every three years. Just 235 of these were made, so you probably won’t see many running around:
