2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S Endurance Racing Edition

One of the stranger special editions to come out of Porsche in the past few years was the 2017 911 Carrera S Endurance Racing Edition. It was produced to commemorate the marque’s 17 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was fine, but the color scheme based on Porsche’s LMP1 racer is really bizarre. That is because you can’t actually read what it says. It is supposed to read “Porsche Intelligent Performance” on the hood and roof, but the font is so large that you have no idea what it even reads unless you are a mega nerd for everything Porsche. Needless to say, this doesn’t appeal to the casual 911 buyer that turns in their lease every three years. Just 235 of these were made, so you probably won’t see many running around:

While I love almost everything Porsche, these just feel really messy to me. Every time you drive the car you are going to have to explain what the heck is going on with these random letters on the hood and even when you do explain it, no one is going to understand anyway. The car is just a Carrera S so it does hold its weight, and this one looks to be optioned with the very expensive Exclusive Power Kit which adds more horsepower and torque.

When these do pop up for sale they all seem to trade at over $100,000, but I doubt it because people really love them all that much. The majority of this money in these is the equipment and almost all of these were loaded up heavy with good options. This one at $118,000 seems to be in the ballpark, so I can’t really fault it. Just be prepared to make small talk at every spot you make after you leave your house.

One of these shows up at some of our local cars/coffee events. It looks sort of strange in person..as you say, pretty heavily optioned, so not a crazy price.

    Interesting,

I’ve owned mine since late last fall, as of today October 2022 I have not had to explain to a single person the interesing tape stuck to the car. As for the price of the car I paid 119K and would expect I’d get that back in a resale if I choose.
Porche decided to pretty much empty the options basket into this car, I’d say the onl;y other options I would really like is Lane Detection and maybe the front end lift which surprisngly Porsche omitted, weird. Otherwise its a S with 4 wheel steering and I absolutely love the car, at least until I move on and sell.
Otherwise it’s a special edition of a couple hundred and will eventually be desireble in the collectors market at some point in time, just hire a linquist to dechipher the interesting vinyl.

These are a amazing limited edition from the Exclusive Manufaktur division. I have owned 911’s for over 35 years now and the Endurance Racing Edition is one of the most interesting modern 911 to me simply because how limited the numbers are and of what it represents (Le Mans most over all manufacture wins). I researched this car when it was announced.
It is the only street 911 I can think of that the factory authorized using their racing graphics on. I am going back to my early 930 days and don’t remember ever the factory designing a street car special edition using their actual racking graphics. (that is a very big deal in Porsche special editions)
The actual car Porsche and Exclusive basically has every performance option from rear wheel steering, to very bespoke carbon fiber interior and leather. I will try to add one of these if I can find one to my collections of 911s. I suspect their value will go to the moon after a few years for a mint unmodded example. I have some other air-cooled 911 somewhat limited editions but none nearly as limited as this particular Endurance Racing limited edition 991.2.
Had to chime in on this very cool Porsche 911.
