Event Report: SFest 2015

Yesterday I had the pleasure of heading out into the hills of Connecticut to Coventry Motorcar to enjoy SFest 2015. It was a beautiful day (if a bit hot and humid) for a drive and a show; the roads leading to Coventry, Connecticut are simply awesome and in spite of the forecast for a bit of rain, the clouds held out. Despite my long love affair with Audis, this was my first trip to the storied event which has been running strong for the past decade and has a dedicated fan base. But instead of being just an Audi-only show, the field a cars that arrived was diverse and interesting. Of course, there were the usual Audi S-cars; mostly S4 and S6 models, but a S8 in my favorite Avus Silver Pearl arrived, along with a few Avants, a ridiculously clean A8L, my Coupe GT, an original Quattro previously featured on these pages, a few Coupe quattros and a 90 quattro Sport.

But there were others outside the Audi range as well, including a pair of cool Porsches – a Martini edition Targa and a 930, as well as a trick Cayman. Then there was a monster CL65 AMG Mercedes-Benz that had us drooling, and an impressively tuned Nissan Skyline GTR. Several Volkswagens made the trip, including an Abt-modified Passat B5.5, a Mk.7 GTi, R-Line CC and a Corrado SLC VR6, plus a super clean E30 M3 and a very clean and low mileage S52 M Coupe.

It was good to catch up with several of the devoted Audi folks, including Marc from EFI Express and a slew of the quattroworld 4000 forum fans. The Coupe GT went for a few joyrides and smiles were plentiful. Although there were only a few of the older cars there it was still fun to get together. Plus, Coventry Motorcar provided some of the best tacos I’ve had in a long time! Thanks to Brian, Scott and Julian amongst others for putting the event together. While it’s not the biggest show out there, it’s a great group of enthusiasts and cars to go see – I’d wager there aren’t many shows that highlight 240,000+ mile daily drivers, and everyone is welcome. If you’re in the Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island or Eastern New York area next year, plan of supporting this event – it’s worth the trip!
