2013 BMW M3 Lime Rock Edition 6-Speed

I mentioned in my last post that the pricing of the M4 limited editions might be expensive, but it was far from the most expensive of the smaller Ms. Case in point; today’s M3 Lime Rock Edition. What did that get you? Individual Fire Orange paint is the most obvious item, but this was otherwise a loaded Competition Package car with some M Performance goodies and a sticker showing a track map of Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. Only 200 were made, and though they’re essentially just an appearance package – like most of the special E9xs were – they command a premium. How premium?

1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe

Sometimes I don’t know what to make of the 964 Porsche 911 Carrera 4. You can certainly appreciate Porsche moving to an all-wheel-drive setup, but that comes with a lot of compromises. The big ones being weight, complexity, and losing a bunch of power from all that driveline. Suddenly you have a peppy 911 turned into a heavier car that needs to divvy up its power to the front wheels. You may feel differently, but I think the juice isn’t worth the squeeze with that. The values seem to disagree with me.

1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500

It always surprised me what comes out of the woodwork when looking at unusual color combinations. Most of the time I didn’t even think it was possible, but the old adage of anything is possible with enough money sure rings true.

Today, we have a 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 up for sale in London finished in Designo Purple over Designo Purple leather. Thats the name. Just Designo Purple.

2020 Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe

My disappointment was immeasurable when I heard Mercedes-Benz gave the axe to the S-Class couple following the production of the C217 that wrapped up in 2020. Hard to believe there would be no S-Class coupe after it existed in one way or another beginning way back in 1937. One would think it would make a perfect candidate to be fully electric the same way Rolls-Royce is going with their new Rolls-Royce Spectre set to hit roads for the 2024 model year, but I guess not. So if you want the last S-Class coupe, here you go.

Today’s car, a S560 up for sale in Portland, Oregon is as classic as it comes. Black over black leather. It’s a pure grand tourer for 365 days a year thanks to 4MATIC all-wheel drive and still can play in the big leagues with the Bentley Continental GT and the Rolls-Royce Wraith. I want one.

2020 BMW M4 Heritage Edition 6-Speed

Just in case the many special editions of the M3 and M4 didn’t strike your fancy, in 2020 BMW launched yet another limited-edition of the outgoing F82 M4. Dubbed the Heritage Edition, it was effectively a Competition model in one of three exterior colors mimicking the Motorsport logo. You could choose from the shades of Laguna Seca Blue, Imola Red II, or today’s choice – Velvet Blue – and you got a special M-striped carbon-fiber roof panel, special interior trim, and the choice of a six-speed manual or the seven-speed DCT transmission. Production was limited to 750 units worldwide, only a fraction of which came with manual transmissions, so collectability is almost assured for the future:
