1980 Porsche 911SC

This particular car intrigues me so I’ll get right to it. Here we have a 1980 Porsche 911SC with a little under 60K miles. The intriguing part to me, though, is the color: Talbot Yellow over Brown. We simply do not come across many of these cars. I’m always a fan of bright colors on particular cars, even though for my own car I almost always choose black. My personal contradictions aside, there is a particular allure to such a popping color and while not every owner enjoys the lack of subtlety these cars provide there are few that would deny that these cars represent something a little more special than what we get from most of the popular color options. Talbot Yellow over Brown is definitely a period-correct choice and sure to please many enthusiasts looking for a 911SC that stands apart from the crowd.

1980 Porsche 928

When it comes to the world of the 928, most people think about the repair bills associated with ownership rather than the premier grand tourer from Germany in the 1980s. So advanced was the design that it basically ran into the 1990s still looking quite fresh. Granted, the interior colors and plastic materials are quick to date it, but if you look at the overall layout it is not dissimilar to many supercars of today, and it’s especially notable when you see how antiquated the 911’s dash layout from the same time was. Today it has gotten a bit rare to see early 928s as many suffered from neglect and they’re difficult and expensive to resurrect; but in spite of an apparent engine failure this light blue metallic example has weathered the ages very well, and with a replacement heart and pristine exterior and interior looks like it just awaits a new owner. The best part? Of course, it’s a manual:

1980 Porsche 928

Every time I set eyes on a Porsche 928, I still am amazed by the fact that this car was introduced in 1977. This was one of those landmark cars, much like the Citroën DS over 20 years earlier, that moved the chains in terms of car design. Integrated bumpers and a streamlined greenhouse took the world by storm in an era where disco music had yet to die. While I prefer the later GT and GTS models, the early 928s have merit in their own right. This 1980 example for sale in Miami has covered under 50,000 miles and is equipped with the automatic gearbox.

1980 Porsche 911SC Targa

After featuring a selection of higher-priced Porsches I was hoping to find something at a little more reasonable cost. As is generally the case with that sort of search, my thoughts immediately turned to the 911SC. Even with prices creeping up along nearly the entire Porsche portfolio, the 911SC remains a relative bargain and can usually serve as an excellent choice for those looking to see what the fuss is all about with the motoring icon that is the Porsche 911. The particular example featured here is a 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa on offer through Craigslist in Boise, ID. The mileage, at 115K, is about standard for a SC described as a driver and this one comes with the benefit of having been restored a few years ago.

Tuner Tuesday: 1980 Porsche 928 Euro Gemballa

In the crazy world of Euro tuners, Gemballa stands out for some pretty crazy modifications that are sometimes in questionable taste. But in the 1980s you couldn’t flare a car enough, and Gemballa was one of the best. Gemballa actually made several different body kits for the 928, with seemingly few being the same. This particular model sports some of the wider flares and a large enough wing to make your local Lamborghini Countach jealous; mainted in dark blue paint and sitting over some seriously wide BBS wheels it looks ready for a filming session fo the next Rush music video:
