1981 Porsche 928

The Porsche 928 is one of those cars that is fast becoming a pipe dream for armchair enthusiasts like myself. For years I’ve heard the nightmares people go through to keep these V8 sports cars running, stories which lead me to believe that these cars are either for the very rich or very brave. Even if I had another parking spot to enjoy this hobby I’m supposedly involved with, would something like this be worth the hassle? Whatever the case may be, my interest has been piqued once again with this Bamboo Beige 1981 Porsche 928.

1981 Porsche 911SC Coupe

I’ve been sitting on this 911 for a little while and just never gotten around to posting it. There are some reasons for that, which we’ll get to below, but none the less this remains an interesting 911 and worthy of our consideration. Modified 911s always require a higher level of wariness, though in many ways assessing the mechanical condition of the car remains the same as that of any car of this age. Here we have a Rosewood Metallic 1981 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in Connecticut, with 87,000 miles on it and some very nicely contrasted Gold Fuchs wheels. The colors are said to be original. The engine, however, has been rebuilt to higher spec and the interior lightened. Altogether this could make for a really fun 911 if it’s at the right price.

1981 Mercedes-Benz 280E

Yesterday, we featured a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD, it’s diesel engine being a rarity for US market W124 estates. Today, we have this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280E, with it’s petrol six-cylinder engine equally as rare for US market W123s. Whether it’s a diesel or petrol lump under the hood, less than 85,000 miles is not much for these cars and the condition certainly appears in line with the mileage. If you’ve always desired a little more speed in your W123, this would be one to scope out.

1981 BMW M1

One of [whatever]. We hear it quite often here at GCFSB, but we’ve also come across some quite rare machinery in our years of being involved with this site. When I saw this Polaris Silver M1 for sale in Germany, I found it hard to believe that it was one of only three manufactured in this color. Silver is such a common color, especially on our favorite German vehicles. Sure enough, however, they didn’t produce many in this hue. With under 500 built, the M1 was one of the rarest BMWs produced. This car was just the beginning in what would be a long line of high performance machines to wear the Motorsports badge, which would wind up on the posterior of everything from roadsters to Tourings.

1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Turbodiesel

$_57

Turbo’d Rabbit Pickup diesels are becoming quite a thing, as they are regularly showing up for sale and make up a large percentage of the little Rabbitaminos for sale in general. Some opt for the later 1.9-liter TDI, but this one appears to be an original (albeit refreshed) engine with a turbo bolted on. It surely boosts performance but sends the mileage up a bit as well, returning an astonishing 50-60 mpg. With a fresh coat of a gorgeous Mazda green and very nicely reupholstered Jetta seats, this little Caddy flies under the radar but hides a serious performer. All this comes for what, compared to some Rabbit Pickups, is a downright reasonable price.
