1989 BMW 325i

Screen Shot 2015-04-10 at 9.30.14 PM

Today’s E30 325i is a well maintained and lightly upgraded survivor that hardly shows its 26 years or 174k miles. It’s not an “is” model but it looks just as good sitting on E38 16″ basketweaves and a lower H&R/Bilstein combo. As is expected on BMWCCA classifieds, the clean appearance is backed up by well-documented care. Overall, it’s a great, driver-quality E30 with a clean look only available in the absence of a spoiler. The only real question here is do the nice upgrades and care justify $10k for 174k miles?

1989 Porsche 930 Cabriolet

What a difference a year can make! In 1989, for the 930’s final year, Porsche equipped its iconic model with a 5-speed manual transmission for the first time. Enthusiasts had long wondered why Porsche had been so persistent in continuing to use a 4-speed manual, but they needed wonder no longer. Now 25 years down the road Porsche’s decision has rendered that single year of the 930 as an extremely valuable commodity, easily surpassing the values of the model years that immediately preceded it. As a quick case-in-point: the starting bid for this auction is pegged right around the point at which we might expect to see an ’86-’88 930 sell. The BIN price is quite a bit higher. The example we see here is a Marine Blue 1989 Porsche 930 Cabriolet, located in South Carolina, with a Linen leather interior and 50,200 miles on it. For someone looking for that combination of classic 911 style, open-top motoring, and pulse-quickening performance a 930 Cabriolet is sure to provide an ample amount of excitement and driving joy.

Porsche 928 Roundup Aus Europa

The Porsche 928 has been on my mind lately, no thanks in part to the knowledgable folks over at flüssig magazine. Normally we like to feature examples for sale in the US, but today I decided to peruse one of our favorite sites for used vehicles in Europe, Mobile.de. After searching about, I found a diverse grouping of 928s, all with their own particular charm. We’ll start with this eye catching 928CS prototype, the rarest of all 928 variants, for sale in Spain.

1989 Volkswagen LT45 DoKa

$_57 (5)
The LT45 is Volkswagen’s Sprinter-like, light-duty van/truck that was sadly never officially sold here. Like the seller says, however, it serves as a great “Goldilocks” between the Syncro T3s and Unimogs we love to feature here – not too big, not too small, but just right and with all of the capability. Featuring two locking diffs, diesel power, seating for 6 AND a multi-use truck bed; sounds ready for whatever kind of adventuring you can throw at it. Exterior framing and a snorkel look tough but mean heading into the jungle is possible too. The canvas-covered truck bed means its only achilles heel may be winter camping, but I do love that it looks like there’s some suspended-bed contraption back there currently. A little easier to park than a Mog and certainly more space than a T3 van or DoKa, this Goldilocks means business.

1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster

I am clearly feeling a yearning for Spring as I continue to come across open-top cars that attract my attention. Of course the Speedster is no standard Cabriolet, nor would it be the car to search out if one desires to spend any significant time enjoying top-down motoring. The Speedster has always been a valuable collector car and with those values increasing significantly over the past year a car such as this one is resigned to spending a significant portion of its life in a garage. The 911 Speedster marked the rebirth of this short-lived Porsche icon with multiple incarnations of the model having followed it. But it is this original re-release that stands as one of the more significant models produced and the 911 Speedster also did double duty as the send-off for the classic 911 in general. They aren’t as pure and no frills as the original 356 Speedster, but Porsche had progressed far enough that such an entry-level model was no longer necessary and these serve more as an homage than an attempt at a recreation. The particular example we see here is a Guards Red 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster, located in St. Louis, with Beige leather interior and 40,504 miles on it.
