1991 BMW M5 – REVISIT

$_57

With all the talk of BMW M-Cars over the past few weeks, it’s nice to remember that one of the most affordable options is still a great car; the BMW E34 is a good looking, seriously fast option that is often overlooked for the bookends on both sides. This particular example is back on the market; it’s no reserve but as of writing hasn’t gained any bids at an opening $20,000. That’s tall money for an E34 these days but we expect they’re heading up:

The below post originally appeared on our site March 23, 2014:

It seems that few M cars, save for a few later model examples, are escaping the collector craze that is driving prices up. The E30 M3 was the car that started the mayhem, and much like air-cooled 911s, everyone and their brother seem to be clamoring to get into one of these machines. One of my favorites of the early M genre is the E34 M5. While I love the original E28 M5 and the V8 brute that is the E39 M5, the E34 has a really reserved nature about it. It’s as if someone dressed an Olympic athlete up in a Savile Row sourced suit, especially when it comes to a black on black example like this stunning example for sale in Hawaii. The thought of taking a trip out to warmer climates and coming back with a souvenir like this is what I would consider a trip of a lifetime.

1991 BMW 318is

A reader of ours contacted us over the weekend asking us for insight into the BMW E30, specifically the M3, seeking out a bit of information and our opinion on where values were headed. This car has become a cult classic and the team here at GCFSB is doing their best to highlight the best of the best on the market and track values. This 318is for sale in Pennsylvania may not be of EAG stock, but with just over 63,000 miles on the clock, it’s well worth a second glance for the E30 fan.

1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL

If you missed last week’s awesome Westfalia that Nate wrote up, you missed a great example of the breed – as Nate put it, all you could ask for in a Vanagon. But if you don’t need the kitchen and awesomely cool pop-top, you can save a bunch of money and still have the Vanagon experience. Granted, you could argue that a large part of the appeal of the Vanagon is those camper Westfalias, but there’s a neat simplicity about the non-camper version. Today there is a stunningly clean version of the regular Vanagon GL on Ebay:

1991 BMW M5

A few weeks ago, Paul took a look at a beautiful 1991 M5, a car often lost in the shuffle. It’s not that it wasn’t an impressive car; it’s just that the cars that bookend it have been lumped into “Legendary” status and the E34 model has not. The E28, long also ignored, has finally gotten the recognition it deserves as a fantastic and great looking sports sedan; similarly, the 400 horsepower E39 – the car that redefined the market – is already being considered by most the car to have. That leaves the smart buyer to look at the quite stylish, silly fast E34 model, most notable for being the last of the “handbuilt” M cars. Today, there’s a nice example on Craigslist:

1991 Porsche 911 Turbo

Among iconic 911s, the 930 and early 964 Turbo stand together and for many of us who grew up in the ’80s the brash style and aggressive dynamics these cars possessed are the attributes that remain most identifiable for the Porsche marque itself. While the 964 Turbo is stylistically differentiated from the 930, the two models shared the same engine. The 3.3 liter turbo-charged flat-six of the 964 was refined and more powerful than that of the 930, but it remained a tried-and-true unit well known for delivering its power with ferocity, not subtlety. Unlike the more highly regarded 993 Turbo, the 964 was rear wheel drive only, a fact that, in itself, should keep these cars in high demand on the collector market for years to come. While the later 3.6 Turbo and Turbo S should remain the true kings, the 3.3 liter Turbo is no slouch. The car we have featured here, located just outside of Atlanta, is a Black 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo with Cashmere leather interior, an outstanding combination coveted by many.
