Have you ever looked at the McLaren F1’s centrally mounted seating position and thought to yourself, “Yes, this is what I need for my everyday commute”? Well have no fear because a solution has presented itself under the guise of this otherwise fairly basic 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. The cliche is that a picture is worth a thousand words so I will leave it to the pictures to describe this Carrera’s transformation. I won’t lie, things get a little weird.

The Porsche Cayenne is always a sore subject when brought up. Often the primary transportation of upper-middle class housewives such as Carmela Soprano and alike, the Porsche purist cringes when one drives by. But in 2010, Porsche decided to add a little flair to it’s normally mundane and mall cruising SUV to honor their victories in the Transsyberian Rallies. What we got was a truly off-road capable vehicle. I’ll spare readers my usual rant about how I don’t like SUVs. But what I don’t like even more than SUVs is when their popularity precludes me from buying a car in the US that I normally would want, such as the Audi S4 Avant. Audi hasn’t offered a non-Allroad style Avant since 2012, which is a shame, given how attractive the B8 A4 Avant was. At least the US got a few years production sent over here, though. This 2010 A4 Avant 2.0T finished in Deep Sea Blue Pearl has got me pining for the days of when Audi understood its traditional customer. The all-wheel drive Avant driving customer.

Porsche’s announcement that their most track-focused, but road-going, homologation vehicles, the GT3 and GT3RS, would no longer be available with a traditional manual transmission was met with a fair degree of consternation among Porsche enthusiasts. Porsche’s reasons were straightforward: around a track, the natural habitat of these cars, a PDK-equipped 911 is faster than a traditional manual. That is all well and good and not an insignificant point for as track-focused a machine as these cars aspire to be. But it still leaves us cold. Rowing your own gears is part and parcel of the driving experience from which so many of us derive our enjoyment. That makes the 997-derived GT3 and GT3RS the last of the breed. Or at least for now. Here we have a Black 2010 Porsche 911 GT3, located in Ohio, with just 4,525 miles on it. First released as a variant of the 996, the 997 GT3 began as a 3.6 liter flat-six sending 415 hp toward the rear wheels before receiving a small bump to 3.8 liters and 435 hp all transmitted via a 6-speed manual transmission. These remain some of the absolute best performance vehicles Porsche has produced and are sure to have a long and devoted following.
