Oftentimes, as car enthusiasts, we face a dilemma. Sure, we want a fast car, but more often than not, performance comes with a bit of discomfort. Most of us like the fun of a manual gearbox, but for those who live in urban areas like myself, it gets to be a bit tiresome in the stop and go traffic. What to do, then? Well, the E36 BMW M3 sedan is a good place to start when it comes to automotive compromise. Four doors, powerful inline-6 under the hood and the availability of an automatic gearbox, such as the car we see here for sale in Florida. Dakar Yellow is a loud color if you are seeking to go unnoticed, but it’s a rare hue, for those who would like to be different.

1989 BMW 325is

This particular BMW 325is brings back a lot of memories for me, as it is almost identical to my first car, an Alpine White 325is. Mine was of 1988 vintage with the larger bumpers, tan leather interior and slightly smaller basketweave BBS wheels with gold centers. A great car that was, and this ’89 example for sale in Georgia has me pining for another E30. With the slimmer bumpers and nicely contrasting red leather interior, this one is a looker and a decent alternative to those who pine after an E30 M3 but are on a budget.

2011 BMW 328i x-Drive Touring M-Sport 6-speed manual

Without question, this car is high up on my list. The E91 BMW 3 series Touring with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A old childhood friend of mine just scooped up a 6-speed manual E91 Touring and loves it. His wife wanted an SUV, but luckily he won that round. We featured another 328i Touring, but this 328i x-Drive Touring, brought to our attention by our friends at BlythBros. is the stuff that dreams are made of for estate fans. Black over Oyster leather, M-Sport package, 6-speed manual. Does it get any better than this, folks?

1998 BMW M3 Sedan

BMW has done much to advance the notion of a sport sedan throughout history, but few embody the concept better than the E36 M3 Sedan. Available for just two short years here in the US, a four-door M3 wouldn’t reappear for another decade until the V8 engined E90 M3 arrived on the scene. A lot of these M3 sedans are equipped with the automatic gearbox, but this Alpine White example for sale at Enthusiast Auto Group has the desirable 5-speed manual gearbox and has covered less than 100,000 miles.

1988 BMW 325ix

This has been one tough winter for a lot of us. A part of me thinks “my, it would be nice to have four-wheel drive.” However, I just can’t bring myself to consider an SUV. Unless, of course, it’s a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen or Land Rover Defender. But for the world I live in at the moment, a truck would be a bit too much. The Audi S6 we highlighted last week got me thinking. If I go back far enough, I can find some interesting performance machines that offer all-season capability. Case in point this 1988 BMW 325ix for sale from our friends at Evolve Motors in Chicago. All-wheel drive BMWs seem commonplace today, but there were few takers for BMWs first crack at a car driving all four wheels.
