1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

Looking at this Porsche 930 I immediately feel like Homer Simpson, “Mmmmmm, double chocolate.” Less drooling though. Technically the interior color isn’t considered to be chocolate, but one look pretty much confirms that’s just a matter of semantics. It definitely matches the Bitter Chocolate exterior. Like with a few other 911s I’ve featured recently this one showcases a period-correct appearance that is very difficult to found outside of the ’70s. While not everyone may be enamored of the exterior color – I happen to think the interior is fantastic and will have broader appeal – for collectors a period-correct example should garner a little more notice, and given the asking price this one is aimed directly at collectors.

1979 Porsche 930

This Black Metallic 1979 Porsche 930 with Cork leather interior has been around for a little while. I can’t remember exactly when I first saw it, but I’d guess it’s been on eBay consistently for a couple of months now. I mention this primarily because I assume at some point this seller will have to come to terms with where the market is valuing this car rather than the price at which they want to sell it. Of the various auctions I’ve seen most have received zero bids with a couple coming in with a bid or two, but remaining right around the $75K starting bid. Why feature it? Well, I do like the car; it’s a nice color combination and Black Metallic isn’t very common on early 930s or 911s in contradistinction to non-metallic Black. It would be great to see it in lighting other than under the fluorescent lights we see here, but even so it still looks good. Throw on a set of black Fuchs in place of the chrome and the whole package should come together nicely.

2001 Porsche 911 Turbo

I revisited this Guards Red 996TT last week (still available by the way) in part because that color is fairly rare to see on the 996. My interest in this Turbo is somewhat similar, though in this case we have a combination of a more interesting interior and exterior to help stimulate our senses. There are a plethora of silver and black examples to be had such that I almost always feel it’s a missed opportunity to allow to slip by most any other color. The basic facts of these cars are well known: prodigious performance for reasonable cost, but with an appearance that not everyone can love either. Unlike its naturally-aspirated siblings, there are no IMS bearing concerns with the engine. So here we have a Midnight Blue 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Utah, with Natural Brown interior and 57,078 miles on it.

2002 Porsche 911 Turbo – REVISIT

s-l1600

The Guards Red 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo we featured in early April remains for sale. After a few auctions that failed to meet the reserve the seller has decided to forgo the suspense and list it with his asking price. That price, $60K, is about $10K above where auctions have ended so we’ll have to see whether anyone has enough interest to go that high. We don’t see Guards Red on the 996TT very often and this one has pretty low miles so perhaps it will sell. That price does begin to eat into the great values we typically see with these cars, but even at $60K it’s a heck of a lot of performance for your money.

1987 Porsche 930 Coupe

As enthusiasts we have a variety of reasons for finding joy in automobiles. Whether it’s outright performance or just the pleasure of a relaxed drive in a vintage machine we are drawn to the engineering, the style, and the pleasure of the total experience that comes with ownership. Among this wide variety I think there is one aspect that almost every enthusiast enjoys seeing in another car: one that has been both well cared for and also driven and enjoyed. These are the cars that have actually been used for the purpose they were built. The one we see here, a Granite Green Metallic over Grey Green 1987 Porsche 930 Coupe located in Maryland, seems to fit that bill well. Given its age we can’t really say it’s high mileage at 114K miles, but that’s still a good number of miles on a 930. Most importantly, even with those miles the condition looks excellent. The seller notes a couple of minor electrical issues, but otherwise this 930 appears to be ready for a new owner to step right in and enjoy.
