1970 Porsche 911E Targa

I am, by nature, very much a visual person; I’m a visual learner and respond quite a bit to color and appearance and things of that nature. As such, I am always captivated by 911s that come in colors I haven’t seen. That probably applies to a lot of people to some degree, but I am fairly certain I pass by a good number of otherwise fantastic examples that just so happen to be in colors I see all the time. This all brings us to the 911 we see here, a Green Metallic 1970 Porsche 911E Targa, located in Michigan, with 154,140 miles on it. On the surface this Green Metallic doesn’t seem like it would be all that rare of a color, after all we see Green 911s pretty often though certainly not as often as some of the others. But I cannot recall seeing one like this on an early-911. Irish Green would be the closest relative, but that’s a non-metallic color with more brightness than the green we see here. If I’m honest, Irish Green is a better color, but this slightly darker metallic hue still has a lot going for it and it would be great to see it under the sunlight. Metallic greens tend to show very well in various lighting conditions and I suspect this one is no different.

1973 Porsche 911E Targa

Here is my second long-hood Porsche 911 for the week and again we have a 911E Targa, though this time from the final model year in 1973. From there the two cars diverge quite a bit because while the Signal Green Targa was more or less completely original this one has quite a few modifications, though the basic backbone remains fairly similar. The original engine remains, but it has been completely rebuilt and the stroke increased to 2.5 liters. There’s no statement about its current power, but it should be safe to say that it’s producing more than a stock 911E. The suspension sounds like it has been beefed up a bit and the interior has received some general refreshing and lightening including the deletion of the rear seats. The primary change of interest to the exterior is the addition of some SC flares and a set of Cibies up front. Overall the build is typical of the 911 ‘hot-rod’ that we come across now and then. This one is perhaps more understated, but for some that may be just what they are looking for. I think it looks pretty darn good and likely makes for some very nice driving!

1969 Porsche 911E Targa

It feels like it’s been a while since I featured a long-hood Porsche 911. So I’m going to look at a couple of them this week, both very similar in some ways and markedly different in others. Generally speaking, the market for these 911s has slowed down quite a bit over the past year and with the exception of the very best examples prices have mostly plateaued. That’s good news for those who remain interested in these vintage cars, even if prices remain fairly high all things considered. For the entry-level 911T and mid-level 911E it is still possible to come across interesting examples in fairly good condition without having to spend exorbitant amounts. That remains less true for the 911S, but even prices for the S have shown little sense of rising lately. The example we have here is a rare Signal Green 1969 Porsche 911E Targa located in Colorado.

1972 Porsche 911E Sunroof Coupe – REVISIT

ag_640

The Gold Metallic 1972 Porsche 911E Sunroof Coupe we featured at the end of October is back up for sale this time with a $127,995 Buy It Now price. When we featured it, bidding on the reserve auction reached a little above $100K so the asking price here may be a bit optimistic, but we’ll have to see if anyone can work out a deal for this 911 that is quite clearly from the ’70s.

Frankenstein 1972 Porsche 911E Targa/911SC/3.2 Carrera – REVISIT

s-l1600

The 1972 Porsche 911E with a 911SC exterior and 3.2 Carrera heart is back up for auction after failing to meet its reserve the last time around. Bidding of the original auction stopped at $27,400 and this auction already sits at $30,000 so we are slowing moving up. As some noted in the comments, this car could make for an excellent foray into the world of air-cooled 911s without having to spend an insane amount of money. And it should make for some great driving!
