1995 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Rauh-Welt Begriff

Porsche design can be funny sometimes. Generally, their designs are modern and purposeful, yet understated. This is something that I think has become especially true with their modern cars as they’ve established themselves as a luxury brand. Porsche even could be said to be a fairly staid company catering to an equally staid clientele. Yet, that is all a mask of sorts. Porsche is, as much as any other company, one built off of its racing history and successes. The designs of their racing cars are about as preposterous as they can get filled with huge wings and impossibly wide rear fenders, though all were built to a specific purpose and as wild as they might look they were functional. Of course, plenty of their road cars followed suit, if in much more reserved fashion. Within this over-the-top world exist a variety of tuners and few tend to take the design aesthetic of Porsche’s racers and run with it better than Akira Nakai and Rauh-Welt Begriff. The one we see here, in Guards Red and using a 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe as its base, is even over the top by RWB’s standards. The double-decker wing has the look of a dragon’s tail and stretches your gaze in a manner perpendicular to the stretch of the rear fenders. Some RWB cars can look very squat; this one does not. Not at all.

Tuner Tuesday: 1963 Porsche 356B Carrera 2

Properly speaking I’m not sure if we’d normally count this Ruby Red 1963 Porsche 356B Carrera 2 as a “tuner,” but given that these were the hot Porsche of their day it fits the bill as well as most anything else. While a 356 may not get your blood going the way a RUF built 930 might, they will always hold a place in my heart and with the 4-cam Carrera engine these are more of a racer than many of Porsche’s later builds. They are small, light, and relatively simple machines fitted with the best mechanical additions Porsche could muster. Add to that their rarity and you end up with one of the most valuable Porsches on the market and easily the most valuable examples of the 356. The example we see here appears in exquisite condition, but sounds as if the original 1.6 liter 4-cam flat-four is no longer with the car. In its place, we find a 2.0 liter flat-four from a Carrera 2 GT producing a reported 160 hp. For a car as basic as the 356 that is the sort of motivation that will get you moving in no time at all!

1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe

It’s time for another blue Porsche. This time a different shade – a much more vibrant shade – on a different model and, likely, at a different price point. Yesterday’s Glacier Blue 911SC, through its icy character, showed us a subtle side of blue that even under certain light looked almost white. It’s a winter scene on a car. Today’s example, a Cobalt Blue Metallic 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe located in Chicago, doesn’t possess the subtlety of Glacier Blue, but rather stands out with a striking brightness that will not fail to be mistaken for any other shade, whether in the light or the dark. And this one is draped over the then-new design of the 964, a model whose standard variants, such as this Carrera 2, seem to be slowly gaining momentum though still lag somewhat behind both their predecessors and successors. For fans of the 964, or even just the 911 in general, this should make for an attractive option in a more modern design than the classic 911, but while foregoing 993 prices.

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe

I have suddenly become very enamored of dark grey cars, especially when they come in a metallic shade. There frequently has been a BMW 135i parked outside my place that I would guess is Space Gray Metallic and with its similarly colored wheels it looks fantastic in almost any light. And that is where my preference lies with these cars: darker grey, metallic, and dark wheels. I don’t prefer the contrast of a silver wheel with these colors. As such, I find this Slate Grey Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe, to be particularly stunning. I really enjoy this color on the 964 in general and with the black Cup wheels, which I assume simply have been painted, the exterior look is brought into definite focus. Contrast that exterior with a striking Burgundy interior and you have a really great combination!

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe – REVISIT

$_57 (12)

The Grey 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe we featured in early July has come back up for auction. This time the starting bid has been lowered from $49,500 to $39,500, but it is up as a reserve auction rather than with no reserve. The seller probably will not have budged much on price, but hopefully we’ll at least see some bids this time around. Whether it will meet the seller’s reserve, we will have to see.
