Feature Listing: 1988 BMW 325i Convertible

It might not be the exact time of year one thinks of buying a convertible, but those of us living on the east coast of the United States experienced a bit of a warm snap in November. A welcome relief for those of us used to dealing with piles of snow. Time to buy a drop top, then? Maybe. If it’s a bit of the 1980s you’re looking to revisit, it doesn’t get much better than the iconic BMW E30 Convertible. This 1988 325i Convertible for sale in California is mostly original, looking sharp in the popular Zinnoberot over black leather, mated to what many consider to be one of the smoothest manual gearboxes in the business.

1993 Porsche 968 Cabriolet

It’s pretty remarkable that over a four year production span, just under 13,000 Porsche 968s were ever produced. You would think such a well-balanced, good looking sports coupe would have been more popular, but the limited production is a part of the 968s appeal these days, adding to its collectability for those looking for a less expensive air-cooled 911 option. With the introduction of the 944S2 Cabriolet in 1990, open-air flexibility was added to the equation; a tradition the 968 carried on with the car we see here, the 968 Cabriolet. This example for sale in New Jersey has just 53,000 miles on the clock and is equipped with the more desirable 6-speed manual.

Tuner Tuesday: 1995 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

s-l1600

For years, Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) division fulfilled the dreams of many enthusiasts, churning out examples of sports cars with rare options or models never produced by this manufacturer, such as two examples of the 993 Speedster and a 993 Turbo Cabriolet, of which 14 were built. Those rare drop tops, however, did not have the twin-turbo engine that was featured in the 993 Turbo and Turbo S. This 993 Turbo Cabriolet, however, does. It is a recreation, but a really good one at that. Nothing here screams aftermarket, but for Tuner Tuesday, we’re going to classify this car as such since underneath it is a C4 Cabriolet. Ever wondered “what if” if Porsche had pulled the trigger on this model?

1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

We often see vintage collector vehicles so perfectly restored that they seem unapproachable, not just in cost, but in terms of putting them to use. One little scratch and you might not score perfect in that next concours. I never really cared much for such bastions of perfection, though. Which is why a car like this 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL has caught my attention. This 300SL is in largely original condition, having passed through two owners with an interesting, global story to boot. What price patina, then?

1997 Mercedes-Benz SL600

The Mercedes-Benz R129 SL is on the cusp of collector status. Fellow GCFSB contributor Andy McCulley was in Washington, DC this week for a conference and we hung out a bit during the weekend, with much car talk on the agenda. After passing an SL500 Silver Arrow parked on the street, he opined that that is one R129 that will be worth money in the near future. I don’t doubt it. Few of them were built, with only 100 SL600s receiving the Silver Arrow trim. This SL600 for sale in Massachusetts might not be a Silver Arrow, but the V12 models are certainly more exclusive than their V8 siblings, with this car’s Designo trim adding on an extra serving of exclusivity.
