1985 Mercedes-Benz 300TD

Like the 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon we featured last week, the Mercedes-Benz W123 estate is a legend due to its durability. The Mercedes-Benz W123 estate was aimed a bit more upmarket than Volvo’s venerable five-door, combining luxury with utility in a package that is still popular amongst the motoring elite to this day. This final year 300TD for sale in California has crossed the 200,000 mark but those familiar with the W123 Mercedes-Benz will realize that kind of distance is trivial for one of the most legendary Mercedes-Benzes of the past 40 years.

1993 Volvo 240 Wagon

It’s been a little while since we’ve featured a Swede here on GCFSB, so I thought we’d take a look at this Volvo 240 Wagon today. Unlike the Porsche Cayenne GTS we just took a look at this morning, this is not a vehicle that has an identity crisis. These Volvos wagons were built as no-nonsense haulers that could withstand everything a brutal Swedish winter could inflict. This 1993 example represents the final year for the 240, a car that can trace its roots back to 1974 and even a little bit before, considering it was closely related to its predecessors the 140 and 164.

1998 Mercedes-Benz E320 4Matic Estate

I’m not a huge fan of television. The last time I was hooked into a series was around eight years ago, when the final episode of The Sopranos aired. Perhaps it was my northeast roots or Mediterranean heritage, but I could relate a lot to the characters and slang thrown around. Recently, one of the most visible vehicles in the show, the Cadillac Escalade owned by Tony Soprano sold for an incredible sum of $119,780. One of the lesser seen cars of the series, however, was Carmela Soprano’s Mercedes-Benz E-class estate. When the series began, she was first seen driving a post-facelift W124 E320 estate, progressing to a pre-facelift W210 E320 estate and then to a post-facelift W210, before moving on to an early Porsche Cayenne. This 1998 E320 4Matic for sale in Florida is similar to that second E-class we saw in the season, in the same Brilliant Silver over gray leather livery.

What Might Have Been: 2001 BMW M5 Touring Clone

635794023986583977

Throughout the years, BMW has only officially produced two generations of the BMW M5 Touring. The brawny E39 M5 was not one of them. However, BMW did create a one-off example as a study, but decided it wasn’t financially prudent to go ahead with production. This hasn’t stopped enthusiasts from trying to recreate what might have been. This 2001 540i Touring for sale in New York has been given the full M5 treatment, right down to the M5 Sport button which is functional. Looking to give the odd AMG Estate out there a run for its money? You’ll want to look this fast Five over a little bit further.

Here’s a V8 that can haul. Literally. For a short while, Mercedes-Benz offered the W211 E-Class estate in V8 form. Sure, with this generation E-class you could opt to have your E-class estate AMG tuned, but for those who simply wanted a V8 cruiser, the E500 estate was an option. This 2006 example for sale in Illinois has under 70,000 miles on the clock and comes equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive, making this five-door not only a sleeper, but practical when the foul weather arrives. With V8 all-wheel drive estates like these, who needs the ubiquitous SUV?
