I’ve seen a host of E36 M3 sedans around this week, some great (businessmom in a technoviolet, one in byzanz), some medium (plain white with that spoiler I can’t stand), and some beat to hell (grey with broken everything). They’re always on my radar due to nostalgia and a belief that it would make an incredible daily driver. Today’s example, a creampuff doted upon by the owner’s late father, might not be suited for daily driver duty. At the same time, I’m not sure E36 values are going to really skyrocket, so if you want to drive the best/”newest” E36 around, this is probably it.

It seems that few M cars, save for a few later model examples, are escaping the collector craze that is driving prices up. The E30 M3 was the car that started the mayhem, and much like air-cooled 911s, everyone and their brother seem to be clamoring to get into one of these machines. One of my favorites of the early M genre is the E34 M5. While I love the original E28 M5 and the V8 brute that is the E39 M5, the E34 has a really reserved nature about it. It’s as if someone dressed an Olympic athlete up in a Savile Row sourced suit, especially when it comes to a black on black example like this stunning example for sale in Hawaii. The thought of taking a trip out to warmer climates and coming back with a souvenir like this is what I would consider a trip of a lifetime.

7 CommentsHow do you like your M car? Loud, like the Dakar Yellow E36 M3 Sedan we featured last week, or perhaps a bit more subdued like this E39 M5 in the rarely seen Oxford Green? This M5 for sale in Connecticut is a three owner car with a tan leather interior that provides a warm look akin to an English drawing room. There’s been a lot of snow late in the season this year (at least for us East Coasters), but it’s never too late to contemplate that little bit of fun you promised yourself for the warmer months.

3 CommentsOftentimes, as car enthusiasts, we face a dilemma. Sure, we want a fast car, but more often than not, performance comes with a bit of discomfort. Most of us like the fun of a manual gearbox, but for those who live in urban areas like myself, it gets to be a bit tiresome in the stop and go traffic. What to do, then? Well, the E36 BMW M3 sedan is a good place to start when it comes to automotive compromise. Four doors, powerful inline-6 under the hood and the availability of an automatic gearbox, such as the car we see here for sale in Florida. Dakar Yellow is a loud color if you are seeking to go unnoticed, but it’s a rare hue, for those who would like to be different.

7 CommentsBMW has done much to advance the notion of a sport sedan throughout history, but few embody the concept better than the E36 M3 Sedan. Available for just two short years here in the US, a four-door M3 wouldn’t reappear for another decade until the V8 engined E90 M3 arrived on the scene. A lot of these M3 sedans are equipped with the automatic gearbox, but this Alpine White example for sale at Enthusiast Auto Group has the desirable 5-speed manual gearbox and has covered less than 100,000 miles.
