In the high performance, exclusive world of Audi’s RS models, most enthusiasts believe they never got it quite as right as they did with the original model. Sure, the RS4s, RS6s, RS5s and TTRSs are impressive, fast and luxurious. They’ll all decimate the roads on the way to your destination, with little regard for supposedly faster marque’s badges. But there was something that was extra special and just a bit more magical about the original RS2; the first of the super wagons, the splashes of red and RS blue were like a poison dart frog – a warning to the rest of the big boys that this little wagon meant business. Packed with a special 311 horsepower Porsche-messaged version of the venerable 20 valve turbocharged inline-5, the RS2 was very special indeed. Power made it to the ground through all four wheels mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with Brembo brakes and Porsche wheels; the small chassis Audi could break 5 seconds in a 0-60 sprint and was good for over 160 m.p.h. making it one of the fastest road cars in the 1990s. About 3,000 of these cars were made, making them not quite as rare as one would expect given how infrequently we see them for sale – but there’s a stunning low mile example today on VW Vortex:

Alright, it’s time to go shopping in the bargain-Porsche aisle. In a world where poor-condition 911s can command five-figure price tags and pristine examples well into the six figures, the 944 remains the everyman’s Porsche. Sure, one will never be as exciting as a 911 Turbo, but the combination of a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive always provides a recipe for fun. So, if you’re looking to get into a Porsche for the first time, or perhaps you just want a good car for track days without having to worry about writing it off, then an entry-level 944 makes a great option. The example featured here is a 1987 Porsche 944 Coupe, located in Texas, that looks fantastic in its Burgundy paint.

3 CommentsThe 930 has always possessed its own ’80s flare that few other cars can eclipse. Make that 930 a Cabriolet, cloak it in metallic paint and give it a nearly white interior and now we’re really talking ’80s. Lately we haven’t seen nearly as many 930 Cabriolets come up for sale relative to the Coupe so when we do come across one it always grabs our attention. The case is no different with this eye-catching Platinum Metallic 1983 Porsche 930 Cabriolet, located in Colorado, with Parchment leather interior and 87,898 miles. Like a few of the recent 930s we’ve featured here at GCFSB this one is a RoW 930 as the 930 was unavailable in the US market during this time.

2 CommentsFor years there was continuing rumors that Porsche would finally produce a four-door saloon, but it wasn’t until 2009 that the Panamera would appear on the scene. No matter how good of a drive the Porsche Panamera is, I just can’t get by the aesthetics. It’s certainly not the ugliest car ever produced, but it just has an awkward presence that puts its grand touring predecessor, the 928, in a good light. Futuristic for its time, the car has aged gracefully and late model examples such as this 928GTS have begun to appreciate considerably. This 928GTS for sale in Ontario, Canada has a reasonable 66,000 miles on the clock and the more common 4-speed automatic gearbox.

3 CommentsThere are times when I feel like we feature quite a few auctions of a pre-1974 911 and I forget how truly rare it is to come across a quality example of these cars. Still here we are on back-to-back weeks featuring a 1968 Porsche 911 Sunroof Coupe, though this time in a lovely Irish Green exterior over Tan interior. The car featured here was originally a Sportomatic, Porsche’s early attempt at producing a clutchless manual, but the owner asked his dealer to convert it to the full manual transmission. There are some details to work out with regard to the work done on the car – perhaps specifically the statement of a “new interior” – but overall we have a good looking early 911 that has spent its days in California and sits with very reasonable mileage given the year.
