1969 Volkswagen Beetle

$_57 (1)

Towards the end of the 1960s, Volkswagen was planning for the eventual demise of the Beetle, but it still wasn’t clear exactly the direction the company would take. There were a few fits and starts with front-engined, water-cooled models and developments on the tried and true rear-engine, air-cooled model, such as the 412. Volkswagen even was looking at a mid engine layout as flüssig magazine detailed a few months ago in their piece on the EA266. The Beetle sedan soldiered on for a while, though, with the last one rolling off the assembly line in Germany in 1977. The convertibles would cease production in 1979, with Beetle production continuing on in Brasil until 1996 and Mexico until 2003.

This 1969 example for sale in Illinois has been lovingly restored in a pretty Diamond Blue, having only passed through the hands of two owners.

1964 Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback

$_57 (1)

Curiously, the Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback was never offered in the US market. It was never quite clear why VW decided to bring just the Variant and Fastback versions to our shores, but intrepid enthusiasts have since filled the void throughout the years, importing these two-door sedans to satisfy an unmet need. This Notchback for sale in Miami has been modified a bit, but with a period look and not to an extent that may have the purists shy away.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan MV Westfalia

$_57 (1)

Let’s face it. Vans are not normally considered the coolest genre of vehicles. But with Volkswagen forbidding US customers access to their most recent Transporters and the commonality of the SUV, the Eurovan, as it was known stateside, has gained a bit of a cult status in the US. While the version equipped with the VR6 engine might be fresh in our minds, a few were sold here in the early part of the 1990s with a 2.5 liter inline-5 cylinder engine. This Eurovan for sale in Florida looks very 1993 with its shade of green and is one of the early examples equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

1985 Volkswagen Transporter DoKa

Earlier this week I posted a DoKa of such questionable taste that I would have posted it in our Friday Fail series if the auction had lasted long enough. Well, today we’ll right those wrongs with a Friday Win in the form of a gorgeous but barely-modified DoKa. It comes one owner removed from GoWesty, who, for all my gripes about their ludicrous prices, certainly do things right and take excellent care of Volkswagen vans. This one has been repainted in the Playmobil-perfect and T2-correct light blue with black bedliner on the lower portions as well as the bed and hinged sides. With just 95k miles, it has decades of life left in it. It may be on the utilitarian side of things with no frills inside or out (not even a Euro-map GPS!), but you can bet that the condition and GoWesty history will help it collect some serious interest.
