We’re doing our best to keep up with a popular modern classic now migrating to US shores given the 25 year importation threshold has been met: the BMW E30 Touring. By the time they make it to these shores, prices are not exactly bargain basement, nor have they hit the stratosphere like their M3 counterpart. Need a reason to go on holiday to Europe? Why not take a side jaunt to Germany to pick up one? This 1989 325i Touring for sale north of Munich was owned by an elderly gentleman and has the desirable combination of the M20 engine and 5-speed manual gearbox.

1988 Volkswagen Fox Wagon

The Volkswagen Fox was another interesting Brazilian import; called the “Gol” in other markets, the Fox was the new entry level car for Volkswagen in the late 1980s. With a low base price, many were without options but they got great fuel economy and offered a taste of Germany (albeit flavored in Brazil) for little money. A favorite amongst enthusiasts were the somewhat rare 2-door wagons, which offered one of the largest rear quarter windows ever produced and plenty of space to haul your load – slowly:

1988 BMW 325i Touring

One of the most popular automotive forbidden fruits for US car enthusiasts is the BMW E30 3 series Touring. Now over 25 years old and eligible for importation, it seems that a steady stream of these small estate cars are arriving on these shores. For E30 fans who may have given up their beloved rides years ago with the pressures of family and a changing lifestyle, this car solves many of those space needs. There was even a four-wheel drive variant available for those who may need added traction, but we have yet to come across one in the US. Imported from England last year, this right-hand drive 1988 325i Touring for sale in Florida is an original car with some tasteful modifications.

1995 Audi RS2 Avant

I have a rather simple dream garage. It consists of three cars. My current MINI Cooper S, a 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Coupe and this car, an Audi RS2 Avant. Each car serves a different purpose, the MINI being the practical, cheap runabout, the Porsche serving my sports car needs, and the Audi being a bit of a jack of all trades. Sure, there’s a bunch of other cars I’d love to own, but these three are at the core of everything I hold sacred in the automotive world. But amongst those three, the Audi is just something much more. All three cars are fast enough in their own right, but the Audi throws space and all-weather capability into the equation. 1988 BMW 320i Touring

Paul was right that the Tourings are coming. Perhaps some owners have been holding on to them as forbidden gems and are realizing that, as the importation restrictions are lifted, they will become more and more common and are looking to cash out now. Today’s is a clean little wagon with some eccentricities among the nice choices; one sport seat/one comfort belong to the prior, the M20B25 and 5-speed conversion well in the latter. Bidding is hot, so clearly people are still more interested in finding one here than bringing it in themselves.
