Wagon Week: 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Estate

Probably one of the most reliable and long lasting cars, the W123 Mercedes-Benz cars are a timeless classic and one of our favorites here at GCFSB. It could be argued that the W123 Mercedes diesels are solely responsible for the North American perception of diesel cars. With only 123 bhp and 181 ft/lbs of torque, these cars weren’t exactly quick, a perception that is strong today. What really sealed the diesel’s fate in the US market was cloud of black smoke that ensued any time these cars were pushed. Despite the popular opinion of these cars as smelly and smoky, those that purchased them saw the true beauty of these cars: their longevity. These cars, much like Steven Seagal, are hard to kill. Their reliability is a thing of legend and it’s not uncommon to see these cars still on the road today with excess of 300K miles.

This beautifully kept blue over tan velour 300TD for sale in Baltimore, Maryland is a great example of Mercedes-Benz build quality and engineering.

This is an amazingly well kept car and could certainly be a great original collector car as well as a solid reliable driver.  The color combination on this car is very attractive and the flawless tan velour interior screams ’80’s amazing. The pricing on this car I feel is right at the top of the mark for this car, but as with any 30 year old car in this condition, it’s rare. So if it’s something that you absolutely have to have, the $15,000 price tag may not be so bad, after all, this can only go up in value.
