Two Tourings: 1972 and 1973 BMW 2000s

Wagon, avant, touring, shooting brake, longroof – however you wan to call it, I’ve always had a thing for cars with a little more junk in the trunk. This is amplified when it is a unique variant that was never sold in the US. Case in point, today’s two beautiful Neue Klasses eschews the classic 3-box shape of what many consider the original sports sedan, and instead has a great little hatch mated to that unmistakable, round-eyed front clip. Both have less than 120k miles and are asking significant mark-ups over standard 2000 BMWs.

1972 BMW 2000 Touring Description:
Very Rare, Grey-Market 2000 Touring! Schwarz Black on Black/Red Two-Tone Interior! This rear wheel drive, 3-door coupe is equipped with an M10 2.0 Liter Inline 4-Cylinder Engine which is rated at 110 horsepower and 116 lb. ft. torque and mated to a 4 Speed manual gearbox. This car has a highly advanced independent suspension with front MacPherson struts and semi-trailing rear suspension. This BMW also has front disc brakes! This is 1 of only 5,783 2000 Tourings ever produced.

The touring variant was not brought to the US market but this this vehicle was imported by a military service member in the 1970’s. The car was then purchased by the Ullom Collection in Pennsylvania. The car was restored by the Ullom Collection in the 1980’s and has resided until late 2013. Metric instrumentation still intact and it is believed that the odometer is correct at 174,669 kilometers (108,534 miles). This rare car has been properly cared for and well-maintained resulting in a very nice driver for the next owner to use and enjoy!

The Neue Klasse 1600/1800/2000/2002’s have always captured car enthusiast’s attention and helped establish BMW as an international brand in the 70’s. In a 1967 test, Road & Track felt that the 2000 sedan was “the best performing 2-liter sedan in today’s market and the best handling and best riding as well.” This is a chance to own a cool piece of BMW history! Enthusiast Auto is completing our Comprehensive Pre-Purchase Inspection and Work Order to address minor service & drivability items.

Service Highlights Include:
· Shifter rebuild
· Differential service with new seals + bushings
· Engine ignition system retrofitted with Pertonics electronic igniter
· New distributor cap & rotor, new spark plugs + wires
· Valve adjustment with valve cover gasket.
This example has been outfitted with two-tone vinyl body stripes + BMW insignia and rare BMW roundel mud flaps.

This black model looks like it should be in a small Eastern Bloc city, and would be a very interesting piece to drive. Most would probably ignore it as an anachronistic hatch, but Euro fans would shower compliments. I like the stripes and the mudflaps – it looks like it should become a streetable rally racer.

This one-owner Colorado Orange model brought to our attention from our reader Allen would definitely turn more heads, and has a little more gumption thanks to the tii’s extra 20hp. I love the classic interior, and overall this little hatch looks ready to bring a lot of smiles at a BMW meet. Whether or not it’s $36k worth of smiles is up to you.

Love the black 2000. The rear 3/4 view with those wheels…so gorgeous. Nice finds.

Styling ahead of its time… “its time” in this case meaning the 1978 Toyota Tercel.
