The diesel-powered W123 Mercedes-Benz is a favorite of ours here at GCFSB. Their iconic style and durability has won motorists the world over, including us. However, this 1979 280E is one rarely seen stateside, packing the M110 2.8 liter gasoline inline-6 engine under the hood. Does the petrol engine take away the mystique of the durable diesel or is it more attractive given the added power? Whatever your opinion, this is a downright clean California car in need of a good home this holiday season.

Even though the number may seem lofty, 165,000 miles isn’t terrible mileage for the W123 Benz. Even a well maintained M110 will last you a while, provided it’s been looked after. We’ve seen similar 240D and 300D model sedans bring in the neighborhood of $8,000 to $12,000. Will this M110 powered W123 bring diesel money? At no reserve, this will be an interesting auction to watch. This car is awfully clean for the mileage it has covered. As such, I’d expect this 280E to settle in around $7,000 to $8,000 at a minimum.
