We feature a lot of low mileage cars here at GCFSB, but one particular car that comes up in the rotation a lot for which mileage doesn’t seem to matter is the venerable W123 Mercedes-Benz. There’s been a few I’ve seen that have over 200,000 miles yet still appear as if they’ve rolled off the showroom floor. A testament, then, to good engineering and quality materials. This 1982 240D won’t get you there fast, but you could have fooled me that it has covered upwards of 150,000 miles. This particular example is from the southern US, has all its service records and has been regularly garaged.

AMAZING ORIGINAL CONDITION – BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL PAINT
Just arrived, an amazing, preserved example of the 80’s Mercedes diesel. This beautiful original condition car was sold new to Ben & Mary King of Anniston, Alabama on December, 7, 1981. Purchased as a car for Mary, she was not a fan of her first diesel. Georgia Owner #2 purchased the car from the King’s on May 28, 1982 and has pampered it for the next 32 years. Due to downsizing to Florida and a smaller garage, it is time for its next owner. Immaculate condition and complete maintenance records, it is a time capsule.
This car is in amazing original condition, with original factory Gold paint. A tribute to the care this car received. The original Tan interior looks like it has been restored, but it is original. Original dash, door panels, carpet and headliner in excellent original condition. Excellent original chrome and stainless trim original. Ice cold factory air conditioning. The car is equipped with the factory 2.4 Liter diesel engine and automatic transmission. Beautiful original wheel covers and newer radial tires.

Garage kept, pampered and serviced, this car could not be nicer.

Value in collector cars is all about the right color combination and original condition. I deal in low mileage, original cars & trucks… This is truly an excellent example of Mercedes iconic diesel workhorse!!!
As a full time business, I buy original, low mile classics to keep, refresh, or restore and sell. Inspections prior to auction end are not a problem and are encouraged.
Driving a 240D is an exercise in patience. It’s all about building speed, keeping momentum and anticipating in between. With the automatic gearbox in this car, it’s one of the slowest W123s you can buy. There’s certainly a skill when it comes to driving a car like this will little power. If you need more power, you’ll want to eye one of the turbocharged 300D or petrol powered 280E models. The 240D is one of the more affordable W123s, with the best examples pulling slightly above the $10,000 mark. Looking over this car, everything seems in good order, from the stainless steel trim to the map pockets on the front setbacks, which you often see sagging in cars this old. This is a car that has been shown a lot of love. As such, I’d expect this one will probably pull somewhere between $7,000 to $9,000.
