It seems there’s a never ending supply of good Mercedes-Benz W123s out there. I’ve met a good number of people who have owned or experienced these cars over time and all of them have walked away impressed. With modern manufacturing and bean counters, it’s doubtful we’ll ever see a car engineered to a point like this in the near future. The good thing is, however, that these cars’ durability have kept many on the road, clocking hundreds of thousands of miles each in the process. This 300TD for sale in Georgia has made a few long distance trips, having just broken 160,000 miles. Considering their reputation, the break in period for this final year W123 estate has just ended.

Well kept 1985 wagon, last year of the W123. I purchased this car on eBay and Had it fully serviced for my road trip. I drove from San Diego to Miami through the Norther part of the country. Car ran amazing with plenty of power to handle the Rockies, she is a freeway queen. When I purchased the car she came with all her receipt which I left at a tire alinement shop in North Carolina. Before the trip I had the valves adjusted and breaks serviced, and the car cone through by Nick’s independent Mercedes Benz. In North Carolina I had new Michelin Tiers installed by Costco and balanced. In Miami I had the SLS repaired and two new rear levelers installed as well and replacing 3 glow plugs. Plus had the sun roof drain cleared. I installed a new Kenwood CD player with bluetooth music as well as handsfree and replace the 4 blown speakers. I have the original Becker Radio and it will be sold with the car. I also replaced the door seals in Miami. The former owner installed a dash cap, something i was unaware when I purchased the vehicle. Lastly I had a custom fitted carpet made for the back with marine grade material and bound. All the wood is in nice shape although I replaced the glove box section and it’s a bit glossier.

A friend of mine with a house in the Hamptons was eyeing a W123 estate to go back and forth from Manhattan. He found one for well under $10,000, but it needed a lot of work. As it goes with most cars, I told him to spend a bit more and find one full sorted. This particular car would have been one on the top of my list for a few reasons. First, the asking price is within the realm of reason when it comes to W123 estates in this condition. Second, it’s the final year the W123 was produced and the optional rear facing third row seat is a nice extra that adds versatility. Finally, the condition of the car and willingness of the seller to answer questions is also a good sign.
