1986 Porsche 944 Turbo

$_4 (1)

We’re always on the lookout for low mileage classics here at GCFSB, but it’s rather special when you find vintage motors with under 10,000 miles on the clock. These types of cars can be a window into the past, reminding restorers how these cars were made in the first place or taking collectors back in time to when they first saw a particular machine on the showroom floor. This 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo for sale in Texas is just such an example. With just under 10,000 miles on the odometer, it looks as if it just rolled off the production line in Stuttgart. The idea of turbocharging had been around for some time, but this was the first car that produced the same amount of power with or without a catalyst. Forged pistons, a ceramic port liner and Brembo four piston calipers and ABS came standard. With a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds, this was a very quick sports car in its day.

We just saw a extremely well-maintained 1986 944 Turbo with 58,000 miles sell for $21,500 this month. Clearly, the strong money with 944s these days lies with the Turbo and Turbo S. The lower mileage on this car might tip the scales closer to the mid $20,000 range, about the top end for 944 Turbo values these days. I love the Guards Red with black Fuchs wheels here, but I might have been more content with the higher mileage of the aforementioned black 944 Turbo we saw earlier in the month. At least that car got a bit more exercise and I’d be a bit less hesitant to use it. For the collector, though, this 944 Turbo is one nice piece.

As of now the bidding is over $35k and still hasn’t hit the reserve.

    Wow.

This thing is either redefining the market or there are two guys out there who want a 944 that looks like it was built yesterday. Judging from the bidding it looks more like just two guys. Still, very exciting auction to watch. Good luck to seller and bidders.
