Can the relatively-unloved E34 M5 start reaching towards the $20ks now that pretty much every other generation regularly commands more than that? We’re at a funny point in the market for every model number of M5. The E28, E39, and E62 are all fetching mid-$20ks for solid examples, with outliers entering the surrounding price decades. The E34 stands alone, seemingly stuck in the teens for anything decent, from 245k-mile survivors to examples like today’s 93k-mile, black-on-black business machine.

Saying there were 1,200 made (though it’s actually 1,678 just in North America) and following it up with “truly one of a kind” always gets my goat. But the car speaks for itself here, looking to be appropriately in sub-100k-mile condition throughout, though some rock chips in the hood and scuffs on the front spoiler indicate it has not been completely babied. Black on black looks positively sinister though and helps the M-System Turbines looks as good as possible. With 311hp and no major flaws, can this E34 M5 drag itself out of the teens? It has a taker at the opening bid of $15k, but I’m guessing the reserve is at least a few higher.

I paid 20k for my Avus Blue 93 3 years ago. The 93’s are worth more than the 91’s and the cars that are not black/black seem to bring a lot more money.
Bought my high mileage but totally refurbished E34 M5 for $9500 in 2014. Everything replaced or revamped and a new S38 with only 80k kms on it. Wonder what the reserve is?
Billy, I know you want to grow up to be a used car salesman but you have to pay attention to me now, here in 2nd grade grammar hour, just before lunch. We only start sentences with a capital letter here on planet Earth. Will you remember that?
…
Sally, is Billy asleep behind his book?
Hey my old car….well not exactly this one…
as a point of reference I sold my 91 Blk/Blk with service records from new in August of 2014 it had just over 100k on the odo and I got a little over 20k for the car…
my car had numerous upgrades that were considered in the spirit of the car: Euro Brake rotors, SLS delete, M-Parallels & the list went on….IF this car is as represented (though all that shiny stuff in&out of the car make me wince) 20k should not be a stretch given the market and how few E34’s are about that have not been beat to death….I agree if you can get a 3.8 even BETTER!…and yes Black was so common…..but it looks sooo good.
BTW Happy to look at this for anyone as I will be on Long Island this weekend
Did these generally have shiny window trim?
@Bimmerfan…the chrome window trim was standard on the E34 M5…the black “Shadowline” trim was an option no cost IIRC…
I agree that $20k is not a stretch. I truly believe these are about to take off in price.
I need to buy some ArmorAll stock. Jeez…
