Few would have seen it coming when the W124 Mercedes-Benz E class was introduced, but towards the end of the model run, the mid-sized luxury sedan got a shot in the arm by way of V8 power. While a new E class was being readied for 1996, Mercedes needed to do something to compete with the V8 heavyweights from Japan, the Lexus LS400 and Infiniti Q45. While the Lexus LS eventually went the way of the S class, the Q45 eventually died altogether, but the impression these cars from the Far East made on US consumers has been lasting. Still, there are those of us who appreciate classic German engineering even if it comes with some compromise. I would wager to say that this E420 for sale in California has aged a bit more gracefully than its Japanese competitors.

Hello buyers, thanks for joining my eBay auction for this beautiful 1994 Mercedes E 420 sedan. This car was purchased new in Santa Monica, California and spent it’s whole life garaged in sunny Pasadena. You just cannot find these cars in this condition, with these low miles for this kind of money. I have included many pictures to show off her beauty. Please know that she runs and drives as well as she looks. The Air Conditioning blows ice cold and the original radio and power antenna work great. There is a 6 disc factory CD Changer in the trunk. This is the 4 valve per cylinder V-8 that just purrs! The interior is as no one has been in her! All the power options work as designed, including windows, locks, sunroof etc…

Growing up my father had a 1992 400E and I do have fond memories of that car. The one thing these sedans can benefit from is wider tires, as the stock rubber was a little narrow to put all that power to the ground. If you don’t mind a little bit of increased fuel consumption over the E320, these are great long distance cruisers, capable of eating up the miles without leaving you too tired after the journey. Values for these V8 W124s have stayed low and this particular car is no exception. If you could get it for a couple hundred dollars cheaper, it would be a smart looking modern classic that you could feasibly press into daily service.

You’d have to run a CarFAX and check the VMI but if it all checks out I’d say for $4,500 it’ a buy. At this age you may have to go through the suspension and the transmission should be good for another 30,000 to 50,000 miles.
The only thing holding me back – were I in the market – would be the grey leather interior. I’d prefer to have black. But it’s a nice car.
