1994 Porsche 928 GTS

While Porsche’s front-engined cars rarely receive attention equal to that of their rear-engined counterparts, we are still quite fond of them here at GCFSB. And that fondness grows considerably when we come across examples fitted with a manual transmission. A GT car certainly doesn’t require a manual gearbox, but our enjoyment of most any car is enhanced by its presence. Such is the case with the car featured here: a Black 1994 Porsche 928 GTS that has seen only around 37,000 miles. Coming from one of the final years of this GT car’s production, the 928 GTS featured a 5.4 liter V8 directing 345 hp to the rear wheels. With timeless styling and the performance/luxury combination only to be found in a good Grand tourer, these were a fantastic alternative to the more hard-edged 911 and for a time were the presumed future of the Porsche marque.

I was slightly torn about whether to feature this car because of the price and auction set-up. This seller is clearly hoping to extract every possible dollar from this sale, and while we certainly can’t fault any seller for that desire, setting the starting bid a mere $10,000 below a very high Buy It Now price really doesn’t provide for any great likelihood that this car will receive the attention it deserves. From all appearances this car looks excellent and if it comes with a complete service history then any buyer is surely going to end up with a great car. But I’m not sure this car would sell for $60,000 in an open auction, let alone the $82,900 that is being asked for here. I would be happy to be wrong about that because the 928 remains an underappreciated car, so I’ll have my eye on this one nonetheless.
