By the time the 1990s were coming to a close, the writing was on the wall for the BMW 8 series. This was never a volume seller for BMW and while it lasted until 1999 in some markets, the last year in the US market would be 1997. Available in its twilight with the 4.4 liter V8 or the 5.4 liter V12, this example, purchased by Tom Cruise for Nicole Kidman, carries the twelve cylinder lump under the hood. Under 200 850ci coupes made it stateside in its final year, making this one very special Bimmer.

I’m not a fan of Tom Cruise, but it seems he had good taste when picking out this car for his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman. The throwing star wheels and midnight blue paint look great and the late build date make this a very unique example indeed. The asking price here is at CSi levels, which might make this a difficult sell, even considering the celebrity provenance. There can’t be many 1997 V12s left in this condition, however. Whether these coupes have made it this far in the collectability race is debatable, but this one has an interesting story to tell.

prior ownership aside….you said it correctly…this is in the CSi pricing territory…
and we know that a CSi & a Ci are very different animals….
the color combo is great though~
I could not possibly care less about celebrity ownership. I certainly wouldn’t pay a premium for it.
I would like to know how many owners the car has had and some documentation of the maintenance that has been provided to the car in the last 16+ years. Sadly, that information is not provided.
Wow.
I was at Auction America in Burbank and was seriously interested in this car. It sold for $30k.
Too bad a dealer got it and it didn’t go to a collector. I am bummed at myself for not stepping up to the plate, but no way it’s worth CSi territory.
