E39 M5s have quickly ascended to Holy Motor status among enthusiasts, especially those longing for a little less complication and bloat – two major weaknesses on recent BMWs. Their continually increasing desirability is lifting prices, and while bargain examples can be found, they are usually a bit rougher than one would want when buying such a nice car – especially one that is not immune to complication and prone to steep repair costs. Today’s M5 looks like it should be parked behind a wine and cheese table, providing a perfect backdrop with a burgundy exterior and caramel interior. In this guise, the car reminds me of a well-heeled guy in khakis and an oxford, but with a few buttons open in the Napa breeze. This car will party all you want, but can button it up and close the business deal whenever you need. With just 29k miles, there should be a lot less stress about the maintenance, but you’ll have to pony up some serious capital initially to snatch it from the rest of the drooling Bimmer enthusiasts.

I may not have picked this color combo if I were building the car myself, but the combo is certainly delicious. I’ve always loved BMW’s caramel leather, and the burgundy is interesting without being outlandish. When in doubt, aesthetic considerations will be tossed aside as the glorious S62 roars through 6 hand-selected gears and the E39’s epic inherent balance shines. Talk about a do-it-all car, the E39 M5 is the proverbial cream rising to the top.

Wow. That’s absolutely gorgeous. If only it was $15-20k (reasonably priced)… $40k is too much for a 15 year old 5er.
actually the color is Chiaretto Red…really rare..
Caramel is the best interior but then I’m partial as I have Carbon Black/Caramel…
this car has had the instrument cluster replaced…probably due to bad pixels…
this car also has a full leather interior…as the dash is leather…
show me the service records and the build date….and this car would be a steal at 25/27k…
the low mileage is just the icing here….
MY 2000 cars have subtle cosmetic differences from 01-03 cars….nothing that can’t be swapped over…
mechanically they are identical
