2002 Porsche Boxster S

Have you ever wondered what a 986 Porsche Boxster would look like as a Cayman? Well, here we go. What we have today is a 2002 Porsche Boxster S with a Z-Art Zeintop hardtop. Normally, the 986 Boxster hardtop mirrored the shape of the soft top, but the aftermarket Zeintop added a hatch component that actually looks really nice. Naturally this isn’t something you pop on in 10 minutes, but once everything is bolted up, it seems to look pretty slick.

Hardtop aside, I wish this one was in a little nicer shape. The seats seem to be the biggest problem here with the heavy wear showing, and of course being a Craigslist ad there is no actual information despite there being a bunch of words in the ad. As for the hard top itself, these ran about $4,000 when they were new, but sadly the company went belly-up after producing a handful of tops for the 987 Boxster as well. Needless to say this is a rare piece and I don’t think the seller really knows what they have.

The asking price for everything is $15,000, which seems a bit high given the mileage and condition. I am trying to calculate if the hardtop adds any value, say the way a Miata hardtop does, but I really think it is in the eye of the beholder given this isn’t a simple job to throw on quickly. Still, if you always wanted that 986 but could never justify it because it is a convertible, this is your shot.

That top is very interesting. Thanks for posting this. The rear 3/4 styling is a little odd, but overall it’s a good look. If the seller can describe the interior as “flawless” god only knows what the mechanicals are like. Yikes.

I like the look…too bad it did not catch on…but the price is definitely high given the mileage.
