2005 Porsche Carrera GT

We rarely feature the Carrera GT here at GCFSB since generally speaking cars like this exist beyond the purview of our site. Even in the world of high-dollar air-cooled 911s the Carrera GT is somewhat of a different breed. A quick perusal of our archives reveals that we’ve only featured one previous example and that was nearly three years ago. So why not take a look once again? Here we have a GT Silver Metallic 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, located in Missouri, with Dark Grey leather interior and 1,765 miles on it. As an all new model, the Carrera GT clearly stood apart from the rest of the Porsche portfolio, but it drew upon enough cues that any knowledgeable observer immediately would know from which brand it had come. Its 5.7 liter V10 mounted amidship produces the greatest sound of any car I’ve encountered on the road. It doesn’t thunder, it doesn’t roar, rather it shrieks and the speed with which the revs climb adds to the ferocity of that engine note. The design is both elegant and purposeful and to my eye has aged quite well over its first decade of existence. The Carrera GT remains a rarely seen beauty though one whose impact has hardly waned with the passage of time.

Part of my interest in this particular Carrera GT, and why I suddenly chose to feature one, is that this one actually is on eBay as an auction rather than a listing with a stratospheric price tag. Since the asking prices of these cars tend to vary wildly I thought it might be interesting to view how an actual auction played out. Of course, the reason we so rarely see a Carrera GT come up for auction on eBay is that it really isn’t the sort of car that you’re likely to buy in that manner. We certainly see such high end cars on eBay quite frequently, but my general sense is that those listings end in a sale in the showroom rather than online. So, this auction sits at only $50,100, a price that obviously will be no where near the reserve. Perhaps I may not get my wish of seeing just where a car like this will be bid to, mais c’est la vie. There is still time though.

Wouldn’t pay the premium for such a pristine low mileage example. Would rather get one with more miles on it and drive it like mad.

I knew a guy who owned one and said it was highly difficult to drive due to its engine layout.

I’m surprised its reputation as a Widow Maker isn’t more publicized.

I’m proud to say that I managed to pass one on track in two different cars, neither of which should have been capable of passing it. A FC RX-7 and Audi Coupe GT, with a combined horsepower rating of less than half of these, should not be able to keep up with them. That is, unless the driver believes every time they hit the loud pedal they’ll hit a wall – which the owner of that particular Carrera GT did several times with it.
