The R129 has always been my favorite iteration of the SL roadster. Softer and more modern than the classic R107 that it replaced, but still sufficiently angular that it doesn’t succumb to the awful jelly bean aesthetic of the late 80s and early 90s, the quintessentially Mercedes design remains attractive today; sporty and taut yet elegant and handsome. While most US buyers opted for the V8 500SL or the range topping and magnificent V12 in the 600SL, the car could also be had with an entry level 3.0 liter straight six, as found in this 300SL version. Already a relatively uncommon spec, this car features the especially rare manual gearbox, available only on six cylinder R129s.

Porsche’s 356 isn’t always the most popular car we feature. Cars of this vintage naturally have a more limited audience given their high prices and much lower performance. As such, your money is buying a very different thing and in most cases these only find their way into collections. But I remain quite attracted to them, even if I too must admit that a 356 would probably be a decent way down the list of cars to actually purchase. They’re beautiful in the way only vintage cars tend to be and it can be easy to get lost in the details. The example here comes from very near the end of 356 production: a Ruby Red 1965 Porsche 356C Karmann Coupe, located in Texas, that still wears its original paint and sits with 67,150 miles on it.

1 CommentHere’s an interesting one that has had me scratching my head quite a bit. What originally caught my eye was the bright Estoril Blue Metallic sitting on some refinished E46 Style 67 wheels. It was worth a second eyeball, which resulted in me noticing it was a 4-door. CLICK – I’m interested in seeing more. Once in the posting, the title became even more interesting – Racing Dynamics RD Sport? Lesser known than Alpina or Hartge, but still producers of some pretty trick products. 3.6 liter motor? 6-speed? TELL ME MORE!!!

5 CommentsWe talk a good bit about how the 911SC and 3.2 Carrera have become so prized in part because of their longevity – that certainly isn’t the only reason, but it helps given that the most modern example is nearing 30 years of age. The 3.0 liter flat-six in the 911SC especially has shown wonderful results so long as owners showed them proper care. Well here we have a wonderful example of a 3.2 Carrera that’s led a long and, seemingly, pampered life. This Slate Blue Metallic 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in California, sits with over 194K miles on it, but you’d never know that from looking at it. As the first year of the 3.2 Carrera the principle difference between this and an earlier 911SC is the engine so in many regards an ’84 makes for a nice entry into these great 911s compared with later model years as prices tend to remain on the more reasonable side.
