2019 Porsche Macan

Last week I took a look at a 2017 Porsche 911 finished in Miami Blue that surprisingly wasn’t a paint-to-sample color. Porsche is dipping back into the popular color game as options now, but of course, that comes at a cost. Miami Blue was a $3,140 extra cost over a standard color, but that is much cheaper than paying another $7,000 for a true custom blend. Believe it or not, you can even give some wild colors on the SUVs, which of course brings up to today’s car.

This 2019 Macan is finished in Mamba Green Metallic. This, along with six other colors, was just a $700 extra. You could get Miami Blue, along Chalk and Carmine Red, for a much bigger premium of $3,120, which seems odd since there is physically more paint on a Macan than a 911. The even more interesting thing is that if you really wanted to go paint-to-sample on your Macan, you have to hand over $11,430. Yes, I’d think I’d be sticking with one of those $700 colors.

The 2019 model year was a pretty big facelift for the Macan, as you got an update to the rear end with the corporate light bar, some new wheel choices, a big update the PCM, and a bunch of other odds and ends. For me, thee biggest thing is the giant screen really freshens things up inside, although its not like the original Macan was lacking in tech. Truth be told, I think this is the best base CUV/small SUV in the class in terms of actual driving. While the turbo inline-four isn’t fast at all in the standard Macan, its the PDK that just keeps everything so crisp. I’m always amazing at how fast things things can shift, seeing as we are just a few years removed from some pretty sloppy automatic gearboxes. But to be honest, no one is going to buy a base Macan for the driving experience.

This 2019 is actually a used example with 5,000 miles on it. Base price was a hair under $49,000, but this one had around $16,000 worth of options with the majority of the increase in price coming from the Premium Package Plus for $6,500 and 21″ RS Spyder Design wheels for $4,440. Now this dealer is offering it at $61,069, which is a $4,000 difference from the sticker price. That doesn’t scream good deal to be at all, and actually seems like a fairly bad deal. In 2019, Porsche sold more Macans than they did 911s, 718s, and Panameras combined. The same goes with the Cayenne. That means 53% of all Porsches sold in 2019 were SUVs. What does that tell me? You can find a lot of used Porsche SUVs. The first year Macans are now in the mid-$20,000 range and still dropping, so you can expect the same with the facelift model once a new generation Macan drops in the next few years. So while this color is cool and all, be prepared to take a bath on buying on of these.

This is Rusnak. They do a great job with servicing but have never been competitive on a pricing basis. I have long taken my Porsche’s to their Pasadena Dealership for service but have never purchased an auto from them-

That’s a lot to pay for a 4 cylinder model….I would go for “non-green” Q5 for way less if I am getting a 4 cylinder model.
