2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series

From ”I leased my spouse one” to ”Yeah, look up DTM on Wikipedia, you’ll see” is what the base CLK is to the roided-up Black Series. That, and about another $90,000. We’ve covered the Black Series cars fairly well on GCFSB so I don’t want to ramble on, but I think AMG did the best job they could given what Mercedes gave them in the CLK. A mix of C-Class chassis with E-Class features, the W209, even with AMG guise, was never the most hardcore sports coupe made compared to the holy grail BMW M3 that is fawned over. But when AMG teased the US with the CLK-DTM and finally gave us a taste with the CLK63 AMG Black Series, it was everything that we didn’t know we wanted. So if you are looking for a little piece of DTM heaven, let’s check out this 2008 for sale in California.

1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Just over a month ago, I featured a 1971 Pagoda that is so similar to today’s car that I actually thought it was the same car when I first looked at the listing. Luckily, it’s not, but I thought I’d investigate this one a little further because who doesn’t love a nice Pagoda? (except that forsaken 1969 in NYC we all screamed in horror over) So lets take a look at this surprisingly reasonably priced 280SL located in Queens, NY.

1999 Mercedes-Benz A160 Häkkinen Edition

It’s been almost four years since the last time we featured the W168 A160 and probably for good reason. One of the most disappointing projects that Mercedes ever green-lighted, the W168 makes the W203 feel like a W100 600 in terms of quality. Thankfully the United States market was never stricken with this front-wheel drive piece of late 1990s design trends on wheels. But that wasn’t enough. Somewhere along the line the product managers at Daimler AG got drunk had a meeting and decided they wanted to honor the great F1 driver Mika Häkkinen. So what other way than his own special edition car? It’s just that car happened to be one that flipped over if it saw a moose. If you feel like cracking this over-sized egg for sale in the Netherlands to peek inside then let’s break this one down.

2004 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500

Earlier this week I featured a 2004 Unimog U500 that was the ultimate motorsports support vehicle. Today another 2004 U500 is on the auction block that can perhaps be the ultimate utilitarian workhorse. The OM906LA diesel motor inside this truck makes 811 ft/lbs of torque that, like I said earlier, is enough torque to pull a house off its foundation. But this U500 located in Colorado offers much more than just a bunch of torque and 395(!) series tires.

There is depreciation. Then there is German car depreciation. Then way on another planet there is Maybach 57S depreciation. If you walked into one of the 42 United States Maybach dealers in 2008 and took home the car pictured above, it would of cost you a little north of $400,000. Now a short eight years later you can take home that same car pictured above for $63,800. It’s fully serviced and ready to go as well. Not some kind of click-bait photo tricks where you see a cheap listing on eBay that just shows the front of the car only to find out the rear end has smashed in by a cement truck at 55mph. Usually when we feature the Unimog on this site, they are of the older variety that are used as absolute outdoor workhorses. Snowblower, construction equipment, military special forces and the list goes on. With six-figure price tags when new, these beasts were often overkill and over-budget for the majorty of the population who need work trucks. But for those who need a massive truck that offers everything and more, this U500 in Texas spec’d out with a massive box and a handful of goodies inside, this Mog should be right up your alley.

A few weeks ago Craig featured a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL that caught our eye. Everything he said about the R129 I agree with. It is a quintessential Mercedes design which remains attractive today; sporty and taut yet elegant and handsome. Today we feature a R129 300SL that’s every bit as handsome — along with some other goodies.

1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupe

The W111 coupe is a hell of a design. But it’s one thing just to be a good design. Lots of cars over the years have looked great but when it comes to putting the rubber to the road, well, it’s better off sitting quietly in the Denny’s parking lot on Friday night ‘Cruise Nights’ in small town, USA. Not true of the W111 coupe, and especially not the 3.5. Launched in 1970 to wrap up production of the W111 and make way for the R107/C107, the 280SE 3.5 coupe was the 230 horsepower V8 version to the regular 280SE with the straight-6 M130. Strikingly handsome in almost any color combo, 3.5 coupe values have more than doubled in the last few years. This 1970 located in New York City checks all the boxes if you are looking for the almost perfect classic Mercedes coupe.

The King’s car: Elvis’ 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL

Elvis Presley loved his cars. Or maybe he just liked being seen in cars. Either way, he had his far share of flashy automobiles in his life. Cadillac, Lincoln, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz highlighted a list which included other not-so-glorious makes that just looked flashy. Often when we see ”Elvis cars” come up for sale, they aren’t actually his cars. Usually they were bought by him and given as gifts to family or friends. Today’s featured 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL isn’t that case.
