1994 BMW M3 Coupe

For some time, there was a giant gulf between European-spec cars and US-specification cars. Granted, part of that divide still exists today if the large assortment of cars that do not make it to these shores, but at least enthusiasts can rejoice that at last – for the most part – performance versions that are available in Germany are very close to the same that we receive here. One of the last notable cars to exhibit the large divide was the E36 M3; while Europeans enjoyed over 280 horsepower from the individual throttle body S50B30 in 1992, the later-released US-specific M3 carried an entirely different motor with some 40 horsepower less. Though the S50B30US is certainly a great motor by itself, the knowledge that the “better” version existed across the pond somehow took a bit of legitimacy away from it. Also differentiating the European versions were better floating rotor brakes, better glass headlights, better lower and stiffer suspension, and some neat interior options. Later Euro E36s got even more power and the optional SMG 1 transmission or a 6-speed manual – none of which came here.

But if you fall into “the US version of the E36 M3 is garbage” camp, you don’t have to scream at the internet for “forum cred” anymore as early versions of the Euro cars are now fully legal for import – though, that does not mean they are inexpensive. Today’s example goes to 11 with its Dakar Yellow paintwork, forged Style 24 wheels, Amaretta M cloth upholstery, manual Vader seats, and “slicktop” roof – enough to make most E36 fanatics weak in the knees:

1991 Audi 200 20V quattro

Back in January, I took a look at a modded 200 20V. The crowd was not convinced, but if you’d like a bit of history on what made this one-year-here car so special, check this out:

1991 Audi 200 20V quattro

Today’s car appears to be stock, in much better shape, and has only half the mileage. Even better, it’s less expensive! Let’s check it out:

2016 BMW M4 Coupe Individual

When the F8x BMW M3 and M4 launched, they were loud, proud, and…well, large. Park an M4 next to an original M3, and you can nearly hide the entire older model behind the silhouette of the new one. But when the G80 was launched recently, well…suddenly meet the new boss had me looking at the old boss in a new light. And the S55 is still good for 425 horsepower – and it’ll still rip your face off. 0-60 is gone in 4 seconds and it’ll demolish the older generations in a straight line. Early models have also gotten pretty affordable; look around, and you can find a nice M4 coupe in the 20s now! Today’s car is nowhere near that low, though, given its special color – BMW Individual Laguna Seca Blue:

2007 Volkswagen GTI Fahrenheit Edition

Andrew’s very orange Boxster reminded me of another special from the same time. Volkswagen launched a special run of GLI and GTIs called the Fahrenheit Edition in 2007; the GLI was Imola Yellow, and the GTIs like you see here were Magma Orange. Otherwise, you got the same wheels, interior package, and performance – they were primarily an appearance package. Today’s car has below-average mileage and some mods; how does that affect the price?

1980 BMW M1

Okay, I missed St. Patrick’s day, but we’re close enough. What we have here is a 1980 BMW M1. I won’t bore you again with its history since I recently dove into that in a look at a very impressive dark blue one:

But if dark blue is fairly rare, today’s car is even moreso. That’s because it was repainted Irish Green. Sacrilegious though it may be, the result is pretty undeniably awesome:
