The very low mileage Black 1986 Porsche 930 Coupe with the fantastic Cancan Red leather interior, which we featured in December, remains up for sale. The price has not yet moved so this seller remains patient. The price is high, but this is definitely a very interesting example of this iconic performance coupe.
I ended last week with an Orange 911 Carrera 2.7 that had me completely captivated. It possessed just the right mix of aggressiveness and vibrancy within a classic 911 package. The car we see here, a 2009 Porsche 911 GT2 located in Houston, takes those attributes of aggression and vibrant color and turns them up a few notches. This time the color is a paint-to-sample orange borrowed from the GT3 RS with contrasting black accents and black interior. Draped over the lines of the GT2 it leaves no doubt about the urgency with which this car accelerates and corners. The rest is pretty standard GT2 material, which of course really isn’t standard at all. Loads of turbocharged power pummels the ground via a 6-speed manual transmission directed through the rear wheels. In my ever deepening quest to feature every orange Porsche, this GT2 currently stands near the top for its overall audacity and performance capabilities.
This is the second time I have seen this Porsche 930. It came up for sale about a month ago with a really nice price, but some pretty poor pictures. You could get a sense of that beautiful Minerva Blue paint, but the overall impression was muted. Still, it sold very quickly and I wasn’t able to feature it. Well, it’s back. The price is now higher, which shouldn’t surprise us, and the pictures are now much better. Minerva Blue is one of the better shades of blue Porsche has offered and makes a nice alternative to the pastel blues that are also highly prized, but without quite so much ostentation. It’s a color that is vibrant without being flashy and it looks fantastic on the 930. Like the Granite Green Metallic 930 I featured last week this is another very interesting and rarely seen color on the 930 and also like last week this one comes from the final year these cars were equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. So here we have a Minerva Blue Metallic 1988 Porsche 930 Coupe, located in New Jersey, with a dark blue leather interior and 133,622 miles on it.
The rare Linen Grey over Mahogany 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster we featured in early February is back up for sale. The price has been lowered ever so slightly to $153K. Almost as rare as its color, this Speedster actually has had a decent number of miles put on it so that usage will balance the color combination. We’ll have to see if there is increased interest so this Speedster can find a new home.
As the Porsche 911 has become an increasingly hot commodity on the second-hand market we’ve tended to see shifts in the way modified 911s are presented. We still see track-prepped cars fairly frequently; those cars do fit firmly within the 911s roots and as such we should expect they will always be available. We also frequently see backdated builds – builds that use a modern chassis and drivetrain but revert the appearance to the pre-impact bumper design of the long-hood. Prices for those backdates exist over a wide range with many builders hoping to stumble upon the success of Singer, whose bespoke creations command very large sums of money. What we see a lot less of are modified 911s that most wouldn’t be able to tell are modified. These sorts of subtle, but important modifications don’t attract as much attention, and thus as much money, but can actually be some of the best options for pure driving enjoyment as they preserve the basic foundation upon which the 911 has been so successful. The example here is just such a build: a Malaya Red 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe with 191,659 miles on it whose engine has been replaced with a rebuilt 3.2 liter engine from an ’84 Carrera. There are a few other items added from the Porsche parts bin as well, such as seats sourced from a 964 RS America and air-conditioning from the 993, but for the most part it sounds as if the rest of the work was performed in order to revive a high-mileage 911 and return it to a high-quality state.
