1998 BMW M3 Sedan

$_57

Every time I go out on the web and browse around for a BMW E36 M3 sedan, the selection is usually a bit underwhelming. A lot of these four-door M cars were automatic and while it certainly doesn’t make it a terrible car, it does nothing to sate the appetite of the enthusiast. There’s also a lot of higher mileage examples out there which can potentially scare off the novice M car buyer. This M3 sedan, however, is a 5-speed manual and even with 125k under its belt, still looks the business.

1979 BMW 528i

While the BMW faithful and converts have flocked to the E28 and E30 as the next collectable and drivable classics, nearly ignored in BMW history are the E21 and E12 predecessors; cars that both revolutionized the small luxury sport sedan market and set the stage for their more sought after replacements. If you’re not in as much of a hurry and don’t mind the more 70s, less 80s approach of the earlier cars, finding a clean example is a much cheaper proposition than the market stars that everyone is looking for. Truth be told, finding those clean examples – especially the E12 variety – can be difficult, but today there is a mint condition, lower mile 1979 528i example on Ebay:

1997 BMW 540i 6-Speed Racing Dynamics R48 Prototype

Want a M5? There aren’t many that don’t right now. And if the E39 wasn’t already appealing enough, pricing on them is quickly becoming more affordable for the everyday Joe. But for some folks, it’s still too much, and let’s be honest – while M5s are pretty special beasties there are plenty of them out there. So perhaps if today’s no reserve RS6 wasn’t enough to have you looking at the grass on the other side of the fence, then maybe this listing will be enough to peak your interest – the claimed development car for the Racing Dynamics R48, this early build 1997 540i is prime for the driving at a very easy to swallow pricetag and is certainly unique:

Belated Motorsport Monday: 1973 BMW CSL Race Car

One of the best ways to get into a classic race car is to buy a fully built replica. While everyone really wants the real deal, no one wants to step up to pay the bills; and even if you did, would you really have the serious coin necessary to race a near priceless original race car to the max? While undertaking one of these race replica projects can be entertaining to say the least, more often than not the best way to get into one of these cars is to buy one that’s done. Today’s CSL replica is no stranger to the interweb faithful; it’s been featured on sites such as Bring A Trailer multiple times, and it’s up for sale again. In one of the most recognizable liveries run on German cars from the 1970s, sit back and soak up this awesome visual feast:

1993 BMW M5 Euro – REVISIT

We saw this stellar looking Daytona Violet European-spec M5 here in the U.S. last September. We loved the 3.8 motor, rare color and M-cloth interior – items not found on U.S. versions in general. Interestingly the car has moved to Wisconsin and has re-appeared on Ebay from a new seller with a new description, now at $15,990 “Buy It Now”. It’s about on par with good examples of the E34 chassis in terms of pricing, but this car has an interesting history; it makes me wonder why the new owner is flipping it so quickly and having added only a few miles. Second time’s the charm?
