1979 Porsche 928

Andy McCulley from flüssig magazine is back with another early 928 for sale in Michigan.

Minty fresh! This 1979 928 appears to be very reasonably priced considering the mileage and condition (more cosmetically challenged examples have sold for between $17,000 and $21,000 within the past week). Despite being an automatic, the condition of this car certainly adds a significant premium to the value. It also sports the classic Ferrari color combo of red on tan (Guards Red on Cork in this particular case is quite comparable to Rosso Corsa on Cuoio).

I spoke with a salesman at the dealership where this 928 is advertised, and he informed me that the car is on consignment and that the owner is a very loyal client. Although I had some difficulty understanding the salesman over the phone, he mentioned that he believes the car has been entirely repainted, that it is a one owner car, and that it comes with a complete service history and multiple concours awards. An Internet search informed me that this car won 3rd place in the 924, 944, and 928 Touring category at the 2010 Porsche Club of America parade concours in St. Charles, Illinois in 2010.

1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet

As temperatures continue to be bitterly cold, what better time to look at a convertible! At the very least this will allow those of us mired in winter to daydream of the sun and wind hitting our face rather than ice, snow, and the ever prevalent road salt. I’ve featured numerous Targas during these cold months and for a while the Targa was the only open-top option Porsche made available for the 911. It was not until 1983, with the model we see here, that the full open-top 911 experience could be had by Porsche buyers. An ’83 Cabriolet is an interesting model to pursue as it possesses the talking point trivia as the first and only MY 911SC available as a Cabriolet, while also sitting in a very nice spot on the 911 value-curve. Interesting to talk about, top-down driving, and stout engines promising many miles of motoring enthusiasm: always an excellent combination. Here we have a Guards Red 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet, located in Memphis, with around 73,000 miles on it.

Motorsports Monday: 1986 Porsche 911 IROC RSR Replica

For some time, one of the most popular race car trends with Porsche 911s was updating them; for the most part, people would take 1970s and early 1980s 911s and dress then in 964, 993 or in rare cases even the 996. With prices the way that they are on early 911s today, that may seem sacrilegious to many! So it’s not hugely surprising that with the surge in prices of early 911s – in particular, some of the rare racing models – increasingly instead of updating many modifying the venerable track tools have instead started to backdate the cars to earlier looks. Without a doubt, one of the most popular looks in the 911 scene is the RS and RSR models from the early 1970s – a time that really defined the Porsche legend as the defacto street to track weapon. Today’s example is one such backdated car; starting with a 1986 911, the builder selected the early 70s RSR look with IROC body panels. But the transformation of this 80s icon is more than skin deep, as underneath we find a 964-sourced 3.6 flat-6 good for 250 horsepower:

Coupe Week: 1993 Porsche 968

We’ve saved the best for last for Coupe Week here at GCFSB. Porsche is a company with a colorful history. These days, though, not much emerges from Stuttgart that captures my imagination like the sports cars of my youth. Call me nostalgic, but I don’t aspire to own an SUV with an turbo badge on its rump, no matter how fast or capable it is. Then again, I am attracted to the odd special edition 911 and the new Cayman GT4 that recently dropped is rather tasty with its inclusion of a clutch pedal.

Always one to explore the hypotheticals, what if Porsche continued to develop some of the platforms of their past? The front engine, four cylinder experiment ended after an almost two decade run in 1995 with the 968 Coupe and Cabriolet. This was an extremely versatile platform, giving us everything from basic 924s to the beastly 944 Cup Cars of the late 1980s. This 968 Coupe for sale in Miami strikes a good balance between collector piece and high mileage runner and has the desirable 6-speed manual gearbox.

Coupe Week: 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort

As we near the end of Coupe Week we’ll take a look at one of the ultimate coupes Porsche has produced. The 959 needs little introduction from me; upon its release it was one of the most jaw-dropping technological marvels buyers would have the opportunity of purchasing. The most obvious contrast to the 959, of course, would be the Ferrari F40. Two different answers from two different marques to the need for a halo car. Like most things Porsche, the 959 is both a showcase of performance, but also refinement and technology that pushed the envelope of how we would even conceive of a supercar. With twin-turbocharging and all-wheel drive the 959 also foreshadowed many of the technological innovations to come for the 911 and paved the way for much of the 911’s continued success. It goes without saying that these are extraordinarily rare to come across for sale so when one does it is always worth a look. Here we have a Silver 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort with Black leather interior and a mere 16,500 kilometers on the clock.
