I wrote last week about the price of nostalgia and while that post was concerned primarily with the cost of a 911 from the 1980s, we can begin to appreciate our nostalgic yearnings quite a bit more if we rewind further. The 356 takes us back to Porsche’s roots and that very fact imbues these cars with a spirit that no other model could replicate. Vintage cars such as these are, in a way, history lessons; displays of an ideal that, especially in the case of the 356, have lead to years of development and continued success. The specific example featured here is a restored, numbers matching, 1964 Porsche 356C Sunroof Coupe. By modern standards, the lines of the 356 seem almost pudgy, but underneath those curves lies a light and graceful machine.

Here is an oddity for your consideration. The mighty Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 remains quite a car today and the 560SEC represents some of the best of an old school Benz, however put them together and perhaps you are taking away from each. This isn’t the first time someone has decided to combine 6.9 parts with a W126 chassis, Google Sbarro Mercedes for instance, as with their creations results are mixed.

3 CommentsHaving your cake and eating it too. Few cars in the automotive spectrum come closer to this than a 3 series Touring with a manual gearbox. While you can buy a brand new 3 series Touring in the United States with either a diesel or petrol engine, you can no longer specify the three pedal option. So, barring a change in BMW sales policy towards US customers, this 2011 328i Touring with a 6-speed manual represents the end of the road for manual transmission estate cars on these shores. Following on to the E30 Touring and A6 Avant we featured earlier today, here’s some more five-door goodness in the form of this 328i Touring on offer in Colorado.

This 325i Touring is prime in the crosshairs of vintage Bimmer enthusiasts and a few have made their way over to these shores already. This Lachsilber 325i Touring with BBS basketweaves has been recently imported and is ready to be picked up by its next owner down in sunny Florida.

1 CommentI suppose it is a testament to the current Porsche market that it seems like we are more frequently coming across attempted sales of the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster. Harking back to the original 356 Speedster, these featured the mechanicals of the 3.2 Carrera but added a raked, removable, windscreen and removed the rear seats in favor of a hard tonneau cover. As an homage to a weekend racer, these were always destined to be collectors and, like most, the example featured here has predominantly spent its life in a garage as it shows only 8,639 miles on the clock and appears nearly spotless inside and out.
