1981 Porsche 924GTS Clubsport

Over the past few weeks, we’ve written up a few Low mileage 924s and even a rare to see 924 Turbo, but if it’s a rare site to see those cars come up for sale in good shape, it’s just downright rare to find their overachieving brothers for sale at all. Porsche took the already fairly potent for its day 924 Turbo and upped the ante to take it racing; but they did more than just add the already famous monkier “Carrera” to the name. The 924 Carrera GT sported big flares, bigger spoilers, bigger wheels, bigger brakes, and all to deal with the massive increase in power. It was available in three different trim levels; the standard GT got an impressive 210 horsepower; moving up to the “GTS” got you 245 horses. But if you were a real racer, you opted for the 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport – with 280 horsepower and set up to race with a cage and race seats, this was a race car you could road register:

1981 Volkswagen Scirocco S

Before the second generation Scirocco arrived in 1982, the original Giugiaro sport coupe would be given a sendoff by way of a special model, the “S.” These were available in three colors, Cosmos Silver Metallic, Cirrus Gray Metallic and Mars Red with red piping on the bumpers and different seat trim and came equipped with the 5-speed manual gearbox. As usual, there seems to be a good amount of clean Mk1s coming out of the woodwork, but early Sciroccos are a tough find indeed. This one for sale in California in Cirrus Gray Metallic is a claimed three owner car and from the paint to the interior trim looks to be all there and in rather tidy nick.

1981 Volkswagen Rabbit VR6 swap

The Mk1 Rabbit with the 24v VR6 grabbed a lot of attention last week. Hot on its heels, here comes another one with a 12v VR6 swap for sale in New York. Originally a diesel engined Rabbit, any vestige of economy has been thrown out the window. Equipped with a roll cage, fuel cell and various accessories eliminated to save weight, this thing is itching to get out on the track.

1981 Volkswagen Scirocco

The Volkswagen Scirocco was a clean design when it was originally launched, and in my mind is even cleaner today. The pretty simplicity of the design really sets it apart from the more recent offerings from pretty much every car manufacturer. While the Scirocco was never intended to be a race car or scorch you with light-your-hair-on-fire performance it is a neat package that combined a pretty Italian design with reliable German underpinnings. Three decades on, finding these cars in any state is pretty rare – but especially rare in the state we find this 1981 Scirocco today:
