I’ve been trying to find VW vans that provide more affordable alternatives to the Westfalia, which has become the E30 M3 of camper vans. Well, today’s Ivory example shows that these German mini-RVs are as treasured as the color’s namesake with a very serious asking price complementing low-mileage and some choice upgrades. While the South African lights are great and the exterior condition shows the garaged life, the interior is not the nicest we’ve seen. You could buy a brand-new, fully-loaded GTI for $10k less, making some shake their heads and walk away. Some will see this as a low-mileage gem, however, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the seller get something not too far off the asking price.

3 CommentsThe venerable Mercedes-Benz W123 has enjoyed success among an extraordinarily diverse set of customers, from dictators and wealthy families to hippies and hipsters. The unsurpassed combination of luxury, comfort, cachet, good looks, diesel availability, and epic longevity begins to explain why so many people see this as truly great transportation. 6 CommentsMy wife and I have recently had discussions about what is the perfect Providence commuter vehicle once again, with mixed results. You see, we’d like to own something nice and high performance such as a E46 BMW M3. But there are several things counting against that; first, driving a low slung, high performance car around the “streets” of Providence is akin to entering a Group C prototype into the Dakar Rally. Second, you gain attention of the wrong characters in the city. Third, you can never realize the performance of the car in a city setting. Sure, it looks great parked, but why go through the bother? My wife’s solution is something like the 250GD Nate wrote up yesterday. Indeed, it’s the first car she’s commented on in a long time in a positive manner. She likes the rugged simplicity of the G-Wagen, the understated aggression, and the upright, go anywhere, in your face attitude. “Just wait until tomorrow”, I said, “I have something even better”:
