I have a couple of 3.2 Carreras to feature today, both of which are interesting in their own way and in very good condition. The bidding for each also happens to be at nearly the same price, though I expect we will see that change as each auction moves toward its conclusion. First will be this really pretty and rare Venetian Blue over Linen 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, located in Iowa, with only 25,700 miles on it. For the most part, the 3.2 Carrera has avoided what can best be termed “insanity pricing,” i.e asking prices that are way above market. Typically, we see this phenomenon with the 993, especially the Turbo, but also with a few other rare models (there’s someone trying to sell a 911 Speedster for more than $800K, if anyone’s interested). This Carrera is beginning to step into that territory, though it isn’t quite there. We certainly cannot begrudge sellers too much for hoping to capitalize on an escalating market, especially with very low-mileage examples, but there does come a point where buyers who may have had interest will begin to look elsewhere. Still this is a fantastic looking Carrera Targa and one that I am sure will garner significant interest.

I will continue my pursuit of reasonable value 911s with another 3.2 Carrera and, in this case, one of the prettiest color combinations that we come across throughout the model range. We have seen a couple of Cassis Red Carreras, including a Targa offered for sale by one of our readers, and with every one we come across I remain struck by the color. Certainly, this isn’t as aggressive or eye-catching as other colors in the range, but it conveys a subtle beauty and variability that really encourages us to linger over the car’s lines. Like with many of the lighter metallic hues, none of the lines are hidden, rather the curves stand out reflecting different aspects in shade and sun. With this being a Carrera Coupe we also now have featured an example from the entire range: 930, Targa, Cabriolet, and Coupe. Like the last couple of Cassis Red examples we have seen this one comes with a Burgundy interior, which works very well with the Cassis Red exterior. So here we have a Cassis Red over Burgundy 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Tennessee, with 85K miles on it.

1 CommentIn the first year of the “is” sport package, the 1987 325is came with a front spoiler that protruded so strongly that they’re called “cow catchers.” BMW softened it up a little for the next few years, but I’ve always dug this specific year because when I was little and drawing BMWs during class, they all had this type of curb-taunting front spoiler. While this one only had 72k miles on it, the seller decided to step up their game and take advantage of the E30’s recent popularity by giving it a thorough refreshing. The fresh coat of Hennarot over a nicely redone Natur and black interior really help this car stand out. It may not be all original, but it’s an outstanding example of this one-year-only look.

When buying an E28, there’s an amazing breadth of options when it comes to style, approach, and history. Some go with the M5, an epic and significant performance sedan that comes with steep prices and even steeper maintenance costs. Some look to the affordable and classy daily drivers out there, highlighting the simple sportiness of this great mid-size generation. Somewhere in between, there are some fantastic modified examples, whether they’ve been turbo’d, Euro’d, or all of the above. Today’s E28 wears the sharp exterior of a Euro M5 with its slight bumpers, clean foglight setup and 80s-tastic trunk spoiler. The seller, a strong member of the MyE28 forum and owner of both an E28 M5 and Hartge H5S, has spared few expenses. Beyond the full Euro conversion, the all-black interior is redone including a leather dash, undergone a nice repaint, the M30 was rebuilt just over 30k miles ago, and much more. Despite the beautiful looks, excellent attention to detail, and a very reasonable price, he’s had a surprisingly tough time finding a new home for it.
